Make him get drafted by the Panthers and allow us to live out the happily ever after that we both deserve.

Please.

Chapter Thirty-Five

Ryker

All week long, I’ve had to do my best to tamp down the rage that simmered in my blood every time I had to be near Travis. If it wasn’t for Camille pleading with me not to say anything, I would’ve slammed my fist in his face by now.

He’s purposely avoided me, barely looking my way unless needed. Whenever he did, I’d give him a menacing look that had him quickly averting his gaze.

I thought he’d have confronted me, yelled or something. But the silence from him has me suspecting that it freaked him out how suddenly the video was erased from everything with no explanation. He’s scared and I thank fuck he is. That’ll teach him to ever even think about bothering her again.

I pull my focus back to what’s important right now, and that’s the game happening today. We’re playing the California Bulldogs, who we’re currently tied with in our division, which means this game will determine who will be number one.

“Stretch your arm over your head for me,” Mackenzie instructs as I lie on the table, getting warmed up for the game. I do as she says and she uses a massage gun on my deltoid, making sure I have peak mobility tonight.

There’s one thing that might hinder my movements, seeing as my latest addition is only a week old. I knew it wouldn’t heal in time, except I didn’t think when I did it. I only thought about how this was the best way I could show Camille how much I’ve fallen for her.

How I want to make her mine, to keep her forever and never let go.

Once I left Camille’s house the following morning after what happened, I went straight to the tattoo shop. I don’t like Otto much, but he’s a damn good artist and the only person available to do what I wanted.

A princess crown on top of the baseball that rests right against my heart. I wanted to show her that she was now my number one.

I can’t wait to show her after the game tonight and ask her to be my girlfriend. Hell, we’ve always been acting like it since the very beginning. I don’t think we were ever truly just friends with benefits.

I love Camille. It’s a surety I feel down to the depth of my bones, fueling me from the inside out. And now all I have to do is tell her.

Minutes later, Mackenzie dismisses me and I return to my cubby to start my pregame routine. I’m about to select a song from my pregame playlist when I see a text from my mom.

Attached is a photo of her and Paul, who is wearing a foam finger that reads “Ryker rocks.” I have to admit, it’s cheesy as hell, but also sweet in the way he supports me like I’m one of his own.

After selecting the song I was looking for, I go to pocket my phone when I get a new text, this time from Aurora.

I chuckle at that, feeling more support than I ever have.

And when the game starts, I look out into the stands above our dugout and see my people.

Theo’s sitting next to Camille, with Jasmine on his other side. I usually make Cami sit in the dugout since the incident, but Theo promised he’d make sure no flyouts got near her.

My chest swells with love, making me smile brightly as I wave at them. It feels like I just hit a grandslam when I allow the joy to take over for once. It’s freeing.

Camille smiles sweetly, then blows me a kiss. I pretend to catch it and place it over my heart, earning a blush.

I cannot wait to tell her how goddamn in love with her I am.

Chapter Thirty-Six

Camille

I’m beginning to wonder if my happily ever after will include Ryker after all. Something shifted between us since that day at the lavender field. While we were always friendly and flirty, it’s turned into more.

It’s the way Ryker looks at me with the same adoration as someone watching fireworks for the first time. The way he smiles in between our kisses now, when he used to only scowl at me. Or how every time we’re intimate, my body feels more at peace than ever before.

My cheeks heat up when he catches the kiss I just blew him, making me sink further into my seat.

“You two don’t seem like just friends to me,” Jasmine comments, making my eyes avert to her instead of the man who owns my heart.
