Page 240 of Staying Selfless

“Nope. I don’t think so, little man.” My husband holds up my left hand, showing Ian my ring. “You see this? It’s official. I won. You can’t keep flirting with my wife, dude.”

Ian breaks into a full-blown giggle-fest, unable to contain it.

“You love getting under my skin, huh?” Eli laughs with his favorite blond-haired boy.

“Yep.”

“Get over here.”

Ian rounds the table, climbing to sit across my husband’s lap.

“Thanks for being our ring-bearer,” Eli sweetly says. “We both love you a whole lot.”

Ian rests his head on Eli’s chest as my husband hugs his favorite kid.

The blondie’s little green suspenders and bow tie are absolutely killing me, and with Eli holding him like that, my ovaries are on high alert, ready to give him his own look-alike.

Once dinner is completed, Eli and I make our rounds, greeting our guests. We take a few turns on the dance floor when some of our favorite songs come through the speakers. It isn’t all that hard to get Eli to dance anymore. I think he figured out years ago that if he dances with me, I’ll rub up on him, and he can touch me wherever he wants, so now, he’s typically the one to pull me out onto a dance floor.

And as Mary’s much-awaited mother-of-the-groom dance commences, I watch with a giant smile on my face. She and Eli laugh the entire time, cracking each other up as they sway to the music. It doesn’t matter that she’s not Eli’s biological mom; he’s still her son.

“Sorry to do this right now,” Jack intercepts Eli just as he makes it back to our table. “But your new contract just got finalized. Rich sent it over.”

“Does it have everything we asked for?” Eli questions, regarding his new extended contract with the Chicago Raptors. They took over his rookie contract with Minnesota, so this is his first big contract signing. And if they agreed to all of Eli’s terms, it’s big.

“Everything.” Jack smiles smugly. “It needs to be signed by noon tomorrow, so it’s either now or in the morning.”

“Let’s do it now,” Eli tells his dad as Jack takes off towards the entrance of the tent, headed into the house.

“Sorry, baby.” Eli wraps his arm around me, kissing my temple. “I don’t plan on us leaving our bed tomorrow, so I’m gonna get this out of the way real quick.”

“Take your time.”

“Be back in five.” He takes off to follow his dad.

I keep my gaze locked on his backside, all those years of hockey really blessing my visual right now. His thick legs and muscular ass fill out those suit pants perfectly.

“Perv,” Marc teases, sneaking up beside me.

I give him a nonchalant shrug as my eyes stay glued on my husband’s ass until he’s out of sight. “Can’t help it.”

“Can I get a dance?” Marc holds out his hand for mine.

“Of course.”

Marc finds us a spot in the middle of the crowded dance floor as he rests one hand on my lower back, the other holding mine out to the side.

“Are you happy?” he asks as we move together.

“So happy,” I tell him truthfully, unable to wipe the smile off my face.

Marc’s eyes soften. “Good. That’s all I’ve ever wanted for you, Logan.”

“You’re my best friend, Marc. You always have been. Thank you for having my back all these years. And thank you for marrying us today. It couldn’t have been anyone else.”

“Actually, I got promoted today. I’m no longer just your best friend. I’m your brother now too.”

I wrap my arms around his shoulders, holding him closer. As I do, I spot Ali mid-conversation with Mary, her gaze occasionally flickering over to Marc and me.
