Happy Birthday, Baby.

I’m still not sure if you’re a flower kind of girl or not, but I thought you could use some happiness today, seeing as that’s all you’ve given me since the day I met you.

I have a couple of small surprises coming, but still, I wish I was with you today and every day.

I love you.

I do that stupid thing they do in movies where they swoon and pull the letter into their chests, closing their eyes. But I can’t help it. I love this man more than words can express, and I’d do anything to feel a closeness to him right now.

“I’m obsessed with him,” I admit.

“We know,” Cam and Ali plainly state at the exact same time.

Once again, the doorbell rings. “I’ll get it.” Cam scurries right back to the front door.

I give Ali a questioning look, but she seems just as confused as I am.

“Thanks,” Cam says to someone on the other side of the threshold before closing the front door again. He walks back into the kitchen with two bags full of food.

“Did you order delivery?”

“Nope.” Cam shakes his head, putting the bags on the kitchen island.

Ali turns one of the bags to face her, reading the restaurant’s logo on the front. “Fuck yes. La Rosa. My favorite.”

“And my favorite,” I add, pulling out the boxes of Mexican food as Ali does the same with the other bag.

I find the receipt floating around in one of the bags, seeing enough food listed to feed many more than three people, with the last four digits of the credit card that paid on the bottom.

“Eli,” I state, recognizing the numbers, a small smile tugging up on the corner of my lips. “Did you tell him that all we had were chips and margaritas?”

“Nope,” Ali says. “I only told Marc.”

“Well, my boy got enough food for six.” Cam opens all the containers, laying them out on the kitchen island.

“My boy,” I correct.

Another ring of the doorbell, but this time the door opens before Cam has a chance to answer.

“Happy birthday!” Marc rings out, arms open wide, making his grand entrance. “Didn’t want to scare you, so I thought we’d warn you with the doorbell.”

And behind Marc, two more of my favorite people come into view.

“What the hell are you guys doing here?” I ask, my jaw slack in surprise.

“EJ sent us home,” Jack explains, giving me a side hug as I stay seated on the stool in shock. “He wanted us to be with you instead of in Detroit. And we did too.”

“You guys didn’t have to do that.” My tone full is of gratitude as Mary kisses my cheek.

“I love EJ, but I had enough hockey for one weekend,” Mary explains. “Margaritas? Hell yes. Ali, make mine a double, honey.”

“We weren’t drinking tonight. Logan is still on antibiotics.”

“Logan, I love you. You know this, but...” Mary begins, asking me to finish the sentence for her.

“Please drink, you guys,” I offer with a laugh.
