She also didn’t notice me pulling her gun out of her side drawer and tucking it into my pants.

I didn’t want her to have it.

Since the warrant was a no-knock warrant, I didn’t want her to get startled and accidentally start shooting.

That would be a nightmare I didn’t want her to have to deal with.

But it also left her likely freaking out in the morning.

I scrubbed my hands in my hair, mussing the dirty blond locks with my fingers before I went ahead and put socks on her feet next.

Going to her closet, I pulled out a pair of tennis shoes that I’d be taking with me, because I knew she’d be coming to the station barefoot.

They’d pull her in, mostly because Costas was her brother, but they’d let her go immediately.

I would have her shoes waiting for her when she got out.

Then, since I’d made the decision last night that the playing nice thing wasn’t working for me anymore, I packed her a bag.

She wouldn’t be coming back here.

Not if I could help it, anyway.

Sometimes I check out my cleavage and think, “Wow, that’s where the rest of my cookie went.”

SHAYNE

I was unsurprised to find my bed empty in the morning.

When we came to my place, he never stayed long. Whether it was at my hotel room, my apartment, or Nonna’s place.

What I was surprised to find was myself dressed.

He must’ve done it for me when he realized that I’d be home alone.

He hated when I wasn’t prepared for anything.

And it was on that thought right there that I decided, enough was enough.

Today was the day that I finally threw in the towel.

I wasn’t going to do this anymore.

Not for Costas.

I’d given him the best I could, and it wasn’t good enough.

It was time for him to stand on his own two feet.

I came out of my room, fully dressed thanks to Quinn, looking for my shoes that I knew were around here somewhere.

“Where ya’ goin’?” Costas asked as he saw me head toward the door.

“Looking for my shoes.” I looked at him, really looked at him, and said, “I’m going to look at apartments, because I can’t stand to be in the same house that you conduct gang business out of.”

My blunt honesty shocked him. “What?”
