“We can talk about it then. What day?”

“Saturday. I’ll have a lot of catching up to do at work in the next few days. Rebel will be back at daycare tomorrow.”

“Will she? That’s so great! Tierney came through for you then.”

“For her.”

“For you, too. I’ve got a client coming in, but I’ll see you Saturday.”

Miranda smiled as she hung up. For the first time in years, everything was going right. Even if it was just for a few days. She would take it.

Warmth filled Tori as soon as she stepped into Miranda’s house. The feeling was so different this time. Toys littered the living room, and Rebel came screeching toward the front door, arms out wide as she raced for Harley.

Harley laughed as she picked Rebel up and swung her in a circle. “Rebel! I missed you.”

“’Arley!”

Tori laughed and shut the door behind her. Miranda stood close. Tori tensed. She hadn’t talked to her about what it would mean to have the kids around. She was an idiot. She should have done that. She’d mentioned it before, but Miranda wasn’t a parent, despite essentially being that for Rebel. She wouldn’t be thinking about it.

Miranda leaned in. Tori panicked. She shifted her stance and wrapped an arm around Miranda’s side, hugging her awkwardly. She knew Miranda had gone in to kiss her. Tori’s heart pounded rapidly against her rib cage, her nerves over the top.

“I need to talk to you,” she whispered.

“So talk.”

Tori straightened up and looked at the girls. She locked her gaze back on Miranda and shook her head. “Not with them around.”

“Okay…?”

Tori snagged Miranda’s hand and squeezed lightly. “It’s nothing bad, I promise. Just some ground rules.”

“Ground rules?” Miranda’s brows drew together in confusion.

“Come here.” Tori dragged Miranda toward the kitchen while the girls played with all the toys scattered around. She stepped through the doorway and immediately her hands were on Miranda’s hips, pushing her back into the counter, their mouths locked in a kiss.

Tori melted into the embrace, holding Miranda as close as she could and trying to make the kiss as quick as possible. She didn’t know when the girls would lose their attention and come to find them. She nipped Miranda’s lower lip as she groaned and pulled back with a smile.

“Sorry, it was really hard to wait for that,” Tori whispered.

“Why did we have to wait?” Miranda dug her fingers into Tori’s sides, holding on tightly.

“Siena and I have a rule that we don’t date in front of Harley. At least not until it’s really serious.”

Miranda nodded slightly. “I remember you mentioning it.”

“So unless we’re going to introduce you to Harley as my girlfriend, and a serious one, then I think we need to keep this—” Tori kissed Miranda’s swollen lips “—just to ourselves for now.”

“Probably good thinking.” Miranda pulled her in for another kiss, running her fingers up and down Tori’s sides.

They should have done a play date without the kids. Tori groaned, her hips rubbing into Miranda’s as they smooshed together against the kitchen counter. She didn’t want to move if she had to.

“Mommy!” Harley called.

She broke the kiss instantly and backed away, shooting Miranda a serious look before spinning around to find Harley in the doorway. “What’s up, Pumpkin?”

“Rebel has a stinky diaper.”
