Vinny’s smile widens, a twisted gleam in his eyes as he leans in closer. “Let me let you in on a little secret, Nephew. I killed Lorenzo, Josefina, and Alessandra.”

A rushing, roaring sound fills my ears as I stare into the eyes of my family’s killer. But then something clicks—Bobby had claimed Damian’s father ordered the hit on his woman and child. Why would Vinny have killed Alexis’s mother and tried to take out Alexis? What’s the connection?

My stomach lurches as the auctioneer’s voice booms through the ballroom. “—just know you’ll be the proud owner of Bobby Shields’s daughter.”

All hell breaks loose.

The Iacopelli and Invicta crews surge forward, weapons drawn, as I whirl on Vinny, my vision going red with rage. “You fucking bastard!” I roar, my fist connecting with Vinny’s jaw with a sickening crack.

Vinny stumbles back, clutching his face, but I don’t let him, pummeling him with blow after blow. I can still see my parents’ bodies lying on the floor, Dad in his study, Mom in the kitchen. And Alessandra? She had been gunned down in the foyer, her hand stretched out toward the door.

She had been so close to escaping.

“You killed them all! Mom, Dad, Alessandra—and for what? So you could rule the Iacopellis?”

Around us, the ballroom erupts into chaos as Invicta and the Iacopellis clash with The Brotherhood. People scream and attempt to flee the room, but I barely register it.

All that matters is making Vinny pay for his crimes.

In the midst of the pandemonium, I catch a glimpse of Alexis, her eyes wide with terror as she clings to the young girl at her side. My heart clenches, and with a monumental effort, I tear myself away from Vinny, intent on reaching her.

But as I surge forward, a new realization dawns. The auctioneer’s words finally hit me.

Alexis is Bobby Shields’s daughter.

DAMIAN

Behind me, the auction descends into an all-out war as the Iacopelli and Invicta crews surge forward, engaging in a brutal clash with The Brotherhood’s forces. Potential buyers flee in a panic, some even trying to escape with their “purchases” in tow, but we show them no mercy, gunning them down without hesitation to help the terrified girls escape.

Once the initial shock of Alexis’s being my most hated enemy’s daughter wears off, I round on my uncle again, my eyes blazing with a fury Vinny has never seen before.

“You murdering bastard!” I roar, the veins in my neck standing out in stark relief.

Vinny’s lips curl into a cruel smile, even as blood trails down his face from my earlier beating. “Now, now, Damian. We won’t want to be hypocritical, do we?” He chuckles darkly. “After all, how many have you killed in the name of the Iacopellis?”

My hands clench into fists, every muscle in my body coiled and ready to strike. “I did what I had to for my family. But you…” My voice drops to a menacing growl as gunshots and screams erupt around me. “You killed them in cold blood for your own twisted ambition.”

Without warning, Vinny whips out his gun, pistol-whipping me across the face. I stagger back, stars exploding in my vision, but I refuse to go down. I surge forward, tackling my uncle to the ground in a flurry of fists and fury.

We grapple, each fighting for the upper hand, but Vinny’s years of experience give him the advantage.

If I make it out of here alive, I’m forcing Edo to fucking train me.

With a savage twist, Vinny wrenches the gun from my grasp and levels it at my head.

“Say goodbye, Nephew,” Vinny hisses, his finger tightening on the trigger, his eyes full of hate.

But before he can fire, a blur of movement catches his eyes and he whirls just in time to see Nat barreling toward him, knocking the gun from his hand and sending them both tumbling.

I watch in amazed pride as my sister kicks the shit out of the man she’s always hated, her fists flying with ferocious intensity. She may not know that Vinny killed our parents, but she saw him about to shoot me and that was enough for her to get involved.

Vinny manages to land a vicious right hook, sending Nat flying, but I can see the fear in the old man’s eyes. He wasn’t expecting Nat to be so strong, so unrelenting in her attack.

Vinny takes off running in the opposite direction, and rage courses through me. “You fucking coward!” I roar, my voice barely audible over the cacophony of the battle. I step forward to follow him, but Nat’s hand on my forearm prevents me from doing so.

“Leave him, Damian! We’ll get him later. You need to find Alexis!” she shouts, her face bleeding, as she pulls out another gun and shoots a Brotherhood soldier straight in the head before she runs off into the heart of the battle.
