Out of all the questions, that’s what I want clarified? Yes! It’s important to me. She gives me a weird stare.

“Yes, I did,” Maahi snaps firmly.

I slide my arm around her nape, drawing her close.

“You shouldn’t. Because I’m going to kiss you like that infinite times in future, Maahi.”

She practically heaves in my arms, her lips part in shock and mine in desire. Yet I leave her and move to the bar counter to avoid kissing Maahi again.

“I didn’t put any stay order on Devki Estate,” I clarify, making a drink.

“Don’t lie.”

“I have nothing to lie about. I like to claim what I do, unlike you who don’t even want to acknowledge we kissed last night.”

She struggles to find the right words. I’m messing with her mind and body by linking these matters together.

“It has your signatures, Vikram!”

“Unfortunately, my father and I share the same initials. VSG. They’re his signatures, not mine.”

Now she looks even more bemused. I gulp my drink and stride back to her.

“Nope. You like playing mind games. Even if your father did this, he had your consent.”

Really? She thinks I’m in on this with Dad?

“You’re all the same. Money makers. You don’t care about emotions, and that’s why I’m staying away from you and your silly promises.”

She’s probably also referring to my promise of kissing her infinitely, but that’s not a lie. I will fulfill it if she lets me. I tighten my grip on the glass, and it breaks, bruising my palm. She flinches but doesn’t aid me. I throw away the glass without breaking my gaze from Maahi.

“Let me talk to Dad,” I demand.

“Whatever you do, I don’t care, Vikram. I don’t need your help. I have enough lawyers to handle this.”

She picks up the papers and heads to the door.

“Cub,” I call out. She stops but doesn’t turn. “If anyone can get you out of this mess, it’s me. Doesn’t matter how many lawyers you hire; my father will stop only when I make him stop.”

I've told her what she needs to know and given her a clue. I hope she reads between the lines and gives me the benefit of the doubt. If she does, I'll change her world. My father's actions, without my consent, have unintentionally turned things in my favor. Now, I'm just waiting for Maahi to recognize it. A tremor runs through me from head to toe as I imagine us together in this game—me fighting for her rights and her rocking my world.

CHAPTER 17

MAAHI

I return back to my boutique, summoning Devki Estate’s manager Shukla there to discuss the future steps.

“We have to do something, Shuklaji,” I say, pacing in my cabin at the boutique.

“They are Grovers. Are we really going to fight against them?” he asks.

“Of course, we are,” I shout.

The old man cringes in his seat, and I immediately sit opposite him.

“Shuklaji, call the best lawyer in the city. I'll handle the rest.”

He nods and starts making calls. I can't waste a single minute. Should I tell Daadi what has happened? Her son has returned after nine long years to give her more pain. Should I tell her that yet? No, not until I fix it.
