“I already told Rony I won't be coming.”

“But why?” She groans.

“I have other plans, Sabrina.”

“What plans?”

Before I could answer, my eyes see the woman I've been waiting for... my wife. Maahi steps into the house, and she doesn't look happy to see Sabrina with me.

Sabrina turns around, and her smile vanishes, realizing I was here with Maahi.

“You're late,” I say, striding to my wife who meets me halfway. Instead of a hug, she gives me a heated kiss on my lips. This is new for me—Maahi has never shown this kind of openness in our relationship before public.

“I missed you,” she whispers, giving me another quick kiss before looking straight at Sabrina. “Hi, Sabrina. How are you doing?”

Sabrina is speechless, and I know why. She's jealous seeing us so much in love.

“Uh...” Sabrina stumbles for words, but Maahi outdoes her.

“Why didn’t you come for dinner the other day in India? Aunty was really hoping you would.”

I recall Mom telling me that she and Maahi had met Sabrina in India some months back and had invited her for dinner. Obviously, Sabrina couldn't accept the invitation, knowing how well Maahi fit into the family, leaving her with no chance. She never had one.

“I had other commitments,” Sabrina lies, giving Maahi a stern look.

“Of course, you do.”

Maahi's arm encircles mine as we walk back to the couch where Sabrina is standing.

“And commitments are good,” Maahi continues, turning to me with a smile. Yes, commitments are good. I didn't take a minute to commit to Maahi after realizing how intensely I wanted her to be mine forever.

Sabrina watches us, understanding she's in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“I should leave,” she says.

“Let's have coffee together, Jack—”

“No,” Sabrina stops Maahi. “I'm seriously getting late. Bye.”

“Okay,” Maahi gestures for me to walk Sabrina to the elevator. It wouldn't be polite otherwise.

“Are you okay?” I ask as Sabrina who simply nods avoiding to look at me.

She is clearly disappointed that I haven't given up on Maahi.

“You wanted to know what plans I have that made me deny Rony's party? That's my plan, Sabrina—to spend time with my wife. We're here on our honeymoon, and no, I haven't left my country or this forever. Neither will Mom and Dad. Our lives have changed, and now we finally feel like one family. Maahi unknowingly brought us together.”

Sabrina shrugs.

“Why are you telling me this?”

“Because I want you to know Maahi is my soul. I will never give up on her for anyone. She is all I want and all I will ever need.”

Sabrina fumes but I don’t stop.

“There was never a chance for anything more between us, Sabrina. You are and will always be a friend to me. As your friend, I sincerely hope you find true love for yourself and stop holding onto any hopes that I'll ever want more than friendship with you.”

The look on Sabrina’s face tells me she’s probably realized this too. Yet, without replying to me, she rushes into the elevator and leaves. I return to the penthouse, where Maahi is giving Jack dinner instructions. He leaves us alone.
