“Behave… we’re in a store with uncountable cameras at every angle,” I remind him, looking down to hide my blush.

“Not in the trial rooms,” he mocks, randomly picking a white shirt from the rack.

I know he plans to drag me to the trial rooms and do whatnot inside, so I stop him before he acts on his plans.

“Vikram, no… not here. And by the way, that isn’t your size,” I snatch the shirt from him and put it back.

He admires me as I select his perfect size from the rack. I’ve never shopped for my husband, and doing it now feels great. The next instant, his strong arms slide around my waist as Vikram hugs me from behind.

“Buy a few more,” he urges, and I don’t understand. I turn to meet his hungry eyes. “You’re going to tear a few more in the coming days. So, let’s be prepared.”

My cheeks heat with embarrassment again.

“As if you don’t tear my clothes,” I pout, teasing him back.

“I love tearing off every piece of fabric that covers your body, Maahi. I don’t mind buying an entire lingerie store if we have to.”

I giggle at his cheesy remark.

“Shut up. You are too much at times. Now go and wear this. Let’s see if it fits you.”

I drag him to the trial room. Since he doesn’t show any signs of going in alone, I push him inside and unbutton the shirt he’s wearing. He takes it off in no time, and I help him put on the new one.

“Perfect,” I say as he buttons up and turns to me.

“Always perfect,” Vikram pinches my nose.

“That I am,” I giggle and walk out to peel at the counter where we left Daadi and Meera aunty, and they seem engrossed in selecting a Sherwani. Daadi has a maroon one in her hand and is telling aunty something, who seems to like her choice. They are soon going to finalize one, and it brings immense joy to my heart. They make a great mother-in-law-daughter-in-law pair. Touchwood.

“I’m buying three of these,” Vikram returns. “And you’re paying for them, Cub.”

“With pleasure,” I wink.

Settling the bill, we all leave together for home.

VANRAJ SINGH GROVER

Seeing my family walk inside the door of Ratna Mahal with shopping bags makes my heart flutter with joy. Vikram and Maahi enter first, followed by Maa and Meera, who are walking behind them. I’ve never seen Meera and Maa out shopping together, but knowing Vikram and Maahi, I think it was their doing.

“Hey, Dad,” Vikram reaches me first. “Where were you?”

“I’m here, but where had you all been?”

“Shopping,” Meera replies, passing the bags to Maa, who takes them willingly. “Maahi wanted to shop for a shirt for Vikram, so Maa and I accompanied them.”

I laugh as Meera reaches me. “Meera, do you really think you can lie to me? My birthday is coming, and I am very sure all this shopping was for me.”

“Come on, Dad,” Vikram intervenes. “Don’t give yourself so much importance. All these women were out for me, not you.”

I give up with a loud chuckle. Meera gestures for Maa to take the bags to her room, thinking I haven’t noticed. Whatever they’re hiding, I don’t really care. I’m happy that the distance between them is slowly erasing. With that in mind, I recall what I had to speak to them about but not before Maahi. Fortunately, Maahi takes the other bags and says something to Vikram, who whispers something back to her. I can already see how much closer they’ve gotten in love, reminding me of my good old days with Meera.

As Maahi leaves for her room, I decide to share what I have in mind.

“Vikram must have already told you that we are planning to expand the Grover Group here in Delhi. It will be our first office in India,” I declare to Meera and Maa, who nod happily, acknowledging the same.

Vikram waits for me to reveal it all, which I do the very next moment, but there’s a surprise for him too.

“So, Vikram and I have finalized an office space, and very soon we are going to buy that amazing Technology Park and turn it into the Grover Group’s head office in India.”
