“Couples tend to get intimate. Post it.”

“Really?”

“Do it before I do.”

“Oh, okay.” She starts posting the image on her profile while I play with her hair.

“What about the tagline?” Maahi asks, meeting my eyes again.

“Do you think this picture even needs a tagline?”

She grins. “It proves I’m yours. I always was and always will be,” I add, cuddling her to me. She posts it and puts her phone away, focusing on us.

**************

It’s almost 4:00 pm when I hear faint voices from the living room. It seems my parents are back, and they’re talking to someone, which means we have guests. I get off the couch and wear my slippers. Maahi is busy checking how many people liked the picture we posted, and she seems very excited about something.

“Guess what? Sabrina has seen this picture too, and I guess her friends have done the same. On your face, Sabrina,” Maahi says, grinning ear to ear, making her look all the more adorable.

“I’ll get some coffee. You want some?” I ask.

“How about I make it for us, and you sit and relax?” She gets up, putting her phone away.

I grab her waist and pull her to me. “Can’t risk the helps around at home gawking at you, especially when you look so cute and thoroughly kissed.”

Her eyes widen, and she quickly turns to the mirror on the other wall to see her state. She then fixes her messy hair and smudged lipstick.

“Do I look presentable now?”

“Depends,” I grin. “Depends on who Mom and Dad have invited in the living room.”

“Oh, do we have guests at home?”

“I think so.”

“Then maybe we should go out and check. I don’t want your parents thinking I’m keeping you busy and away from socializing unlike before.”

Though I’m not in the mood to end our private time, we still walk out and to our shock find the Patel family with Sabrina sitting in the living room.

“What the!” I groan, remembering Mom wanted me to meet them today and fix the situation, which I clearly denied. Is that why they invited the Patels here instead? How could they? I’m about to stride to them when Maahi grips my arm.

“Easy. They are your guests, and your parents are closely attached to them. Don’t do anything that can hurt their feelings.”

Really? That’s what she has to say? She should support me in this fight, and instead, she wants me to take it easy? Maahi reads my anger and smiles weakly.

“I’m not asking you to tolerate their nuisance. Just ensure you don’t go overboard. We want to fix the problem, not aggravate it. Do you understand what I mean?”

My anger finally mellows. I know what she means, and I will keep that in mind.

“Let’s go join them then.”

“No.” Maahi steps back. “I don’t think it’s a good idea if you take me there.”

“Why not? You don’t want to support your husband in his fight?”

That strikes her heart, and she frowns. “Fine. Let’s go tackle this once and for all.”

Now that’s the spirit. I entwine her fingers with mine, and we walk proudly to the living room. As soon as the Patels see us together, they cringe, and my parents exhale nervously. Now the drama begins.
