The last person Maya expected at this hour was the detective hired by Ranveer to investigate her accident. What urgency prompted him to show up before she even returned to Paradise?

“Okay, please send him.”

Maya ended the call and rose from her chair. Within a minute, she found the detective in her office lobby, waiting for her.

“Mr. Patel,” they shook hands.

“Hope you're doing well, Miss Bajaj. Sorry for coming here without prior notice. But this was critical.”

“No problem,” she murmured.

“Do you recognize this car?” he showed her some pictures.

Maya carefully examined each one—a maroon car, completely damaged, but she did recognize it.

“Yes, I think this is the same car that followed me.”

“You are sure about it?”

“Yes,” she handed the pictures back. “Where did you find it, and why is it so brutally damaged?”

“We found this in the valley outskirts of the city, and as per my experience, someone wanted to hide the crime and hence disposed of the vehicle intelligently.”

Maya swallowed nervously.

“Is Ranveer aware of this?”

“Yes, I showed him the pictures before you. He is the one who sent me here to get them verified.”

Maya nodded.

“That’s all for now, Miss Bajaj. We will talk again once we get to know more about this vehicle and the person it belongs to.”

“Thanks,” Maya faked a smile as Patel left.

************

After some time, Maya called her mother to inquire about her whereabouts and to check whether Ranveer had returned home from his work trip. However, Garima mentioned that she was currently out.

“Where?” Maya asked her mother again on a call.

“Pammi has called me to discuss the materials we might need for the Havan. I didn’t feel like using Ranveer’s servants to do this work for us. So, me and Pammi are going to shop and then even have dinner together.”

“Someone is being very social again,” Maya teased.

Garima chuckled.

“I love this, Maya. I don’t know why, but I feel like my old days are back.”

That statement made Maya suspicious. Was her mother really going out with Pammi aunty or Vivek Bajaj? But Ranveer’s driver would be around to fetch that information for her, or maybe she was overthinking. The treatment her mother was undergoing might be giving positive results, leading to the change in her. As far as she knew, her father would not try to break the security provided by Ranveer Malhotra to meet her mother.

“Okay, I am leaving now. See you at night. I have sent Ritu back home,” Garima informed and then hung up.

Maya sighed in relief but found a message notification on her phone.

‘Don’t forget our dinner date.’

Maya shut her eyes. He was back home then. It was high time she told him she couldn’t make it. She typed back a message.
