Maya narrowed her eyes. “Call and say what?”

“That you accept his deal.”

Maya sighed. “He is smart. He might be doubtful if I so easily accept it.”

“He is smart, not smarter. I am always one step ahead of him, Maya, and with that experience I am commanding you to do this.”

“It’s good to have so much confidence but—”

“I get to decide how we proceed with this,” he snapped in a louder tone. “I don't need your suggestions.”

Maya swallowed her anger and nodded in agreement. She knew his temperament and had no plans to make it worse for herself.

“Fine. I will call him this evening,” she conceded.

Ranveer relaxed after she agreed to do as told. He sipped the coffee and set the mug aside. “Good. Update me on what you guys talk about.”

Ranveer was about to leave the kitchen, when he paused and turned back to Maya. Before she could react, he reached out and gently pulled the hair tie from her hair. Her dark tresses tumbled down around her shoulders.

Maya looked at him in surprise, her hand going self-consciously to her hair.

“I like your hair open,” Ranveer murmured, his eyes trailing over the silky strands.

Maya frowned slightly, confused by his boldness and the intimate gesture. What did it matter to him if she wore her hair up or down?

Ranveer’s fingers lingered for a moment, brushing against her hair before he withdrew his hand.

“See you later,” he said roguishly, his lips curving into a subtle smile. Then he turned and left the kitchen, leaving a flustered Maya standing there wondering at his behavior. She didn't understand why he would say or do something like that. Shaking her head in vexation, Maya quickly tied her hair back up. But the feeling of Ranveer's fingers in her hair still lingered, despite her confusion. She tried to brush it off and ignore the strange flutter it caused inside.

Blitz Office

Maya glanced at her watch and then picked up her phone. As instructed by Ranveer, she had to make a call to Kunal and confirm that she was ready to work on his side. Her fingers fiddled nervously, contemplating if she should really get deeper into this mess. She had already made a deal with Ranveer to work for him, and now, on his suggestion, she had to make another deal with his stepbrother to work against Ranveer? All this was so confusing. Why were these brothers playing mind games instead of getting into the war arena and fighting their hearts out? She inhaled deeply, suppressing her fear, and made the call.

“Hey, Baby. I knew you would call,” Kunal picked up Maya’s call in the evening. He was still at his office.

“Don’t call me that,” she snarled. It was necessary to interrupt him on this before proceeding with the actual talk.

He laughed sarcastically. “Then what should I call you?”

“My first name,” she replied. “Don’t try to be overly familiar, Kunal. It’s not needed.”

Kunal sighed and sat on the chair.

“How much time has passed since you dated him?” he mocked.

Maya knew he was asking about Ranveer.

“You sound so much like him,” he added.

Maya rolled her eyes.

“I didn’t call you for a normal chat.”

“Then why did you call?” he probed.

“To give you my thumbs up for the proposal you offered me last night.”

Kunal clenched his fingers and banged them on the desk with excitement.
