Ranveer frowned.

“To get you acquainted with whatever belongs here.”

His reply confused Maya, but she waited for him to explain.

“You should know some basics before you act,” he added.

“Act?” she queried.

He leaned down, picked up the glasses, and passed one to her.

“That’s another classical drink you might have never tasted before.”

Maya rolled her eyes, took the glass from him, and then placed it down.

“Thanks, but I am not thirsty. What do you want me to act?” she came to the point again.

“My girlfriend.”

She stepped back. Girlfriend? His Girlfriend? He was definitely insane?

“Are you out of your mind? Why would you do that? Why would you lie about something like this when you can easily find a woman who can actually have a relationship with you?” she snapped. “And why me?”

“Because they chose you. No one better than you can do this, because you already know what they want.”

Maya swallowed hard. They? That means he knew it all the time. That’s why he had tried to punish her three years ago and even succeeded. It’s just that he didn’t know she had denied being part of that nasty game, which his own family tried to play with him.

Ranveer Malhotra came closer.

“It’s just that this time, you will be playing on my side, not theirs,” he whispered. “I want to expose them, and you are going to help me do that.”

Maya shut her eyes briefly. She had been given the same offer in the past, when she was a model. She was told to lure Ranveer Malhotra, so that he falls into her trap and she could get critical details of his company for them. In return, they even offered her lots of money, and as a goodwill gesture, they deposited the money in her bank without intimating her. When she found out, she immediately paid the people back and rejected them from doing any such thing. They accepted her denial, but Ranveer got to know about it somehow and made her life hell. He destroyed her career even without realizing she had rejected their proposal. She was not a woman who would cheat people for money or for getting a hike in her career. She just wanted to earn it with dignity. Only if such powerful, rich and spoilt men like him could understand that sincerity still existed in this world.

Chapter 13

Maya opened her eyes and saw him staring at her with familiar expressions.

“What if I deny?” she asked straight away without beating around the bush.

“You won’t,” he sounded confident.

“How can you be so sure?”

“Because the last time you were offered this, you didn’t deny it either.”

“I had denied,” she scowled. “I don’t think you noticed that well, Mr. Malhotra, but I had denied doing this filthy job for them.”

“The money had been credited in your account. I am sure it wouldn’t have come without your approval,” he yelled.

“I didn’t know they would send me the money. I was just given time to think about it even though I had denied it the moment they proposed me to do this,” she replied. “I returned the money the moment I received the message of the credit.”

“I know that. Something made you change your mind, or you probably got to know how powerful I am and backed off. It could be anything, Maya. Why should I trust you on this? You mean nothing to me.”

Maya swallowed hard. That’s right. He had no reasons to believe her, give her that benefit of doubt.

“This time, you won’t be doing this for money. But your mother. You might not need it, but your mother does. You won’t be profited out of it, but your mother will.”

Maya’s eyes filled with tears. He was very sharply manipulating her.
