“Don’t,” she urged. “It will change nothing. Let the law—”

“They snatched my parents, and you want me to wait and watch the law announce their punishment?” he interrupted. “No, Maya. Only I have the right to kill them, and I will. I don’t care what happens after.”

He pushed her away and took a step back.

“You don’t care what happens after?” she asked again. He stopped. “You are not just a son now, Ranveer. You are someone’s grandson too. You are someone’s husband and someone’s future father. Are you willing to risk all of this?”

Ranveer helplessly sat on the recliner with his head bowed down. Maya sat next to him, placing her arm on his thigh.

“I am sure your parents wouldn’t want you to lose all of this. They want to see you happy in your existing family, not behind bars serving imprisonment. After so many years, you have finally found peace, Ranveer. Don’t lose it this time. Because if you do, it will break everything connected to you—me, Daadi, Mumma, Dhruv. We all need you. Please don’t betray us. Don’t leave us.”

Ranveer absorbed her words, and the moment he realized she was right, he turned around to face his wife and pulled her into a bone-crushing hug. She didn’t complain when her body ached from the pressure he put on her. Even if it meant giving all of her strength to him right now, she would do it without any remorse.

“The evil is gone,” she caressed his nape, controlling her own tears as she heard his throaty sob. “It’s gone.”

Chapter 73

Café House – 2 days later

Garima entered the café, searching for Vivek, who was waiting for her at the corner table. He wasn't alone. Another man sat next to him. She hurried over, and the moment Vivek saw her approaching, he got up to greet her.

“Thank goodness you came,” he muttered, briefly hugging her.

Garima offered him a weak smile and took her seat.

“This is Kapoor, my lawyer,” Vivek introduced.

Garima was clueless why Vivek would introduce her to his lawyer. She thought he wanted to meet her alone.

“He is handling Adira’s case,” Vivek added.

Garima nodded weakly.

“Look, Garima, whatever happened was bad. And I know it has hurt you all, but Adira is a silly girl. She was brainwashed, manipulated. She didn’t mean any harm to anyone.”

“What is your point, Vivek?” Garima directly asked.

“The point is—” he exhaled. “Please ask Maya and Ranveer to drop the case. I want my girl free.”

Garima flinched.

“What?”

“Yes. And you don’t have to worry about Adira anymore. I am going to send her to Canada. She will continue her studies there, and once she is out of all this mess, I will bring her back. I promise no harm will come to Ranveer or Maya.”

Garima fumed.

“Think about us, Garima,” he held her hand. “We are going to get married too. If our girls keep hating each other like this and with one of them behind bars, how can we lead a happy life? Please talk to Maya. I am sure she will never deny you.”

Garima shrugged his arm away as he touched her.

“Can I speak to him alone, Mr. Kapoor?” she asked the lawyer.

Kapoor walked away.

“I cannot believe this, Vivek,” she snarled. “I thought for once you were going to realize what sins Adira has committed. She had a gun, Vivek. She has already attempted to get Maya killed, and this time she was going to do it herself. That gun was with Adira all the time. She could have killed Maya anytime.”

“Exactly. But she didn’t do it. Did she?”
