“The CCTV cameras show that when Maya was getting ready to leave for the bank work, Laura deleted the messages from Maya’s phone. The ones which were sent to her by Kunal from Dhruv’s mobile.”

That’s why when Maya wanted to show Ranveer the proofs of Dhruv’s messages, she couldn’t find them on her phone. Not that he needed to see those proofs. He believed her. He would always believe her.

“F*ck,” Ranveer fumed. “Find her. I want Laura and Kunal behind bars for this conspiracy.”

“Our search is on. She’ll soon be arrested. But Aisha was clueless and she—”

“She is fired, Aman. And I don’t want her back in this job. You heard me?”

Aman knew Ranveer’s temper. He would never forgive a person twice for the same mistake.

“Fine, I will approve her resignation then and settle her accounts.”

Ranveer nodded.

“The man who introduced himself as advocate Sinha and met Maya today is not a lawyer either. He works for Kunal. And he did this for money. We have his statement, and he has already been arrested.”

“Kunal,” Ranveer groaned. That man seriously didn’t deserve a second chance. He had crossed the line today.

“Meanwhile, we will keep a check on Dhruv too, just to ensure he is safe.”

“Do that,” Ranveer nodded.

Aman smiled and made his way out. He had so much to look after, both in Ranveer’s personal and professional life. And while he did that, he hoped his boss would sort things out between him and Maya. Poor Maya. She was sulking alone. Subhadra Malhotra and Maya’s mother, Garima, were out. They wouldn’t be home until tonight. In a way, it was good. They didn’t have to be a part of all this unnecessary drama.

Maya wept alone in her bedroom. It had been three hours since they had returned from Malik House, and Ranveer hadn’t even spoken a word to her. He was seriously angry, and she was afraid of doing anything to worsen his mood. But she couldn’t just sit there and do nothing. She wiped her tears and stormed out, looking for Ranveer. He was at the indoor pool, talking on the phone. She barged in.

“Ranveer,” she called out.

He didn’t look at her but just stretched his arm, gesturing for her to wait. What could be more important to him than her? Or was he punishing her by ignoring her? She strode to him, snatched his mobile phone, and disconnected the call.

“What the,” he yelled.

“Yes,” she answered. “Shout at me. Vent out your anger on me, do anything Ranveer but please don’t ignore me.”

Ranveer zipped his lips.

“I know I made a mistake. I acted like a fool and played into Kunal’s plans to create a rift between us. I feel guilty enough to let it go. So please punish me in the harshest way possible, but please don’t ignore me like this. Talk to me. Please.”

She lost her energy and started to kneel down to sit on the floor. Ranveer pulled her back onto her feet.

“Stop crying first,” he snapped. His voice was not soothing at all. He was still angry. “I said stop crying, Maya.”

She fought back her tears, trying not to weep anymore, even though tears streamed down her cheeks. If only she had the ability to shift her mood instantly, just like he wanted. His grip on her forearms never loosened. He was afraid that if he did, she would collapse.

“Every piece of evidence that Kunal brought up today was against you. Do you realize what that means?” he asked. She looked deeply into his eyes. “You asked me to be transparent in this marriage. God knows I have shared everything with you now. But you? What did you do, Maya? You hide all these little things from me?”

“I tried to call you,” she argued. “Like a hundred times.”

“Then you could have tried a thousand times, dammit,” he growled. “But not leave the house like that and handle things on your own.”

She looked down, tears blurring her vision.

“Admit it, Maya. You are not good at these manipulations. And I know why. Because you think from your heart. Just because someone showed you papers claiming to be my mother’s Will, you thought I would lose everything if you didn’t sign them on time. Just because of a message from Dhruv about Kunal trying his forged ways to clear my accounts, your heart crumbled, and you thought I would go bankrupt. You rushed to the bank to save that money. You fell into this trap because of your damn love for me, Maya.”

Yes. Love. That’s what had made her a fool today.
