“I have a bad feeling about this,” she complained.

Ranveer was speechless. He wished he could postpone this work, but it was equally important. He rubbed his lips on her forehead and then kissed the spot. She felt the warmth of his body enveloping her, easing her stress, but nothing could ease her worry for him, especially because she knew what he intended to do with Dev Malik. She gripped his wrists tight before pulling away from him.

“Is this about Dev Malik?” she shot her query.

Ranveer didn't want to answer that, and his expressions were enough to confirm her query.

“Ranveer…?” she groaned. Before she could draw her own conclusions, Ranveer cupped her face and made her meet his eyes.

“I am not killing him, don't worry. I just need some evidence from his closet, and I can only get it tonight. He and Kunal are leaving for the wedding in an hour from now. Dhruv told me. There is no one there to realize that somebody has barged into their home.”

Maya was shocked by his intentions.

“What? Are you serious? It's a crime to do that too. Sneaking into his home? No way, Ranveer.”

Ranveer rolled his eyes.

“I have to do this. I know he is hiding something important in his study. I just want to find out and see if it's related to Maa's...” he paused. He couldn't explain further. Maya calmed down, though her heart was still racing, knowing his plans.

“Send someone else to do this. You don't have to go.”

“No one knows that house better than me. I know where his study room is, and I don't want to involve a third person in our little secret.”

He was right. Involving someone would only create more mess. Maya recalled how she saw Dev Malik with a woman in the mall. She hadn't told Ranveer yet, but it seemed like it was time he knew.

“I saw Dev Malik today at the shopping center.”

Ranveer was startled.

“With a woman. She seemed threatening him. I don't know if this is useful information, but...”

“Woman?” he interrupted. “Did you see her face?”

“No, I couldn't. She was wearing a cap.”

Ranveer rubbed his forehead.

“Don't hide things, Maya. It's you who told me to be transparent in our relationship. I expect the same from you.”

His tone was clearly a warning. She nodded.

“I will ask my detectives to check who that woman was. You focus on the wedding.”

Maya sighed. How was she supposed to focus on the rituals when he would be sneaking into Dev Malik's house? She became fearful just thinking about the consequences of this act.

Evening

When Maya came out of her room, all set to leave for the flight, she found Ranveer giving specific instructions to Aisha and the other two guards whom he had specially assigned to travel with them and be with her until he reached tomorrow. His ways of protecting her were commendable. She wished she could protect him too that way. He was wearing the same black shirt whose button she had stitched this morning. Black suited him, making that dull, lifeless color look so gorgeous and alluring on him. Even after wearing such a nice outfit herself, she felt less attractive than him. She swallowed the unknown ache formed in her throat and replaced it with a smile as he turned back to see her. Aisha and the guards left the house through the private elevator, and Ranveer headed straight to his wife. There was immense longing in his eyes, as if she were not going to be far from him for a day but years.

The moment he reached her, and she opened her mouth to speak, he lowered his head and kissed her mouth fully, followed by scooping her in his arms. She dropped her purse on the floor and wrapped her arms around his neck, giving in to his demand. Whatever the hell he was doing to her right now felt nothing but heaven. There were no words exchanged, no pauses or even time to take a breath, the way they kissed each other.

While she had just started enjoying the moment and the kiss, he grabbed her head and pulled them away. His eyes and the way he looked at her clearly confirmed that if they went beyond this now, there would be no stopping back, and she would miss the flight. He rubbed her smudged lip gloss with his thumb to neaten her appearance again.

“Miss me,” he muttered, sliding his arm around her waist and leading her to the private elevator. She was short of words. It was hard for her to shift focus like that from being romantic to normal like him. How did he manage to do that with a blink?

They headed inside the elevator, and he pinned her in between his arms again. She looked surprised at him.
