“I am running late, Mrs.”

Maya smirked and picked up the needle and thread from the dressing table. His desperation to make her do such romantic bits was hands down the best and she wouldn't back down either. She didn't need to. She was done running away from this man who was now her husband too. Positioning the button against the fabric, Maya leaned in close to Ranveer's chest. He could smell the floral scent of her hair, feel the warmth of her breath against his skin. It took all his restraint not to reach out and caress her neck, to run his fingers through her dark tresses. Losing control, Ranveer attempted to wrap his arm around her waist, and she noticed.

“Be careful,” she deliberately shouted. Ranveer pulled his hands away. “Don't move. You might get hurt.”

Ranveer took it seriously for a few seconds, but when she chuckled, he rolled his eyes.

“You also know how to play pranks?” he asked. “That's new.”

As Maya worked, Ranveer let his eyes roam over her face. Her elegant profile, her pink lips pursed in concentration. Unable to resist, he slowly trailed a single finger down her arm. Maya shivered at his touch but did not pull away. She bit her lip and, leaning even closer to him, purposely broke the thread. Ranveer cursed himself for being in this situation. He couldn't touch her, nor could he escape. Her gradual steps towards this relationship were wreaking havoc on his emotions. He shouldn't have made her do this. She handled it so well, and in the end, he had to suppress his feelings from every angle.

“Done… there you go.”

She stepped back. He observed the perfection in her little task and buttoned up his shirt.

“Now, where’s my payment?” she teased.

Maya looked up to find Ranveer's intense gaze fixed on her. His eyes smoldered with undisguised longing. Ever so slowly, he brought his hand up to cup her cheek. Her breath caught as Ranveer's thumb gently stroked her bottom lip.

Unable to deny themselves any longer, Ranveer drew Maya's face to his in a searing kiss. His lips claimed hers hungrily, passionately, as if he had been starved for her taste. After their make out yesterday in the bathroom, it was hard to resist her. Maya responded in kind, wrapping her arms around his neck to deepen the kiss.

They clung to each other tightly. All thoughts faded away except the feel of each other's mouths moving together fervently.

When they finally broke apart, breathless, Maya whispered “I should get going.”

She had to leave for the last-minute shopping. But Ranveer silenced her protests with another long, drugging kiss, unwilling to let this exquisite moment end.

Few hours later

Maya crossed the road with Aisha following her. Garima who was in Jaipur now had called Maya to buy Ranveer a wedding ring before they traveled there that night. In a hurry, the old woman had forgotten they too needed to buy a ring for the groom. Garima wanted to check if Maya remembered, so she dialed her number as they talked.

“Is Ranveer with you?” Garima asked.

“No, he's not. He had some official meetings to attend. I didn't tell him I'm buying his ring either,” Maya replied.

“But without him, how will you buy a perfect ring in his size?”

“I got his ring size. Dhruv gave me a sample ring of Ranveer's size. Don't worry, I'll buy it and send a photo if you want.”

“Please do. And buy an expensive one. You know how rich he is.”

“Mom,” Maya murmured. “I know that. But a man like him doesn't care if the gift is expensive enough for his class. For now, you and I are all he wants.”

“That's true,” Garima conceded, impressed by Maya's thoughts.

After selecting a few rings and deciding which to buy, Maya chose the one she thought would look best on his finger. She didn't know if he would wear that ring forever, but she wished to. Why should only women show their marital status? Men should too, and a wedding ring did that best.

“Ma'am,” Aisha approached her. “Mohan wants to speak to you.”

“Mohan?” Maya took the call. Their driver Mohan said his wife was suddenly sick and hospitalized, so he had to leave. Maya allowed it and asked him to update her on his wife's health. After hanging up, she settled the bill.

“Get the car, Aisha. Mohan left it in the parking lot.”

“Okay, ma'am. I'll wait downstairs in the lobby.”

In the lobby, Maya suddenly saw Dev Malik talking to a young, tall woman in the corner. She couldn't see the woman clearly, but they seemed to be arguing. The woman walked away, leaving Dev fuming. She had worn a cap, obscuring her face from Maya's view. Dev followed the mystery woman out of sight. Before Maya could pursue them, someone grabbed her arm, making her jolt.

“Hey, easy, it's me,” Ranveer stood beside her. She had no idea how to react.
