“Ma'am,” Laura's voice interrupted from behind. “Sir already left for the office.”

Maya was shocked. It was barely 8AM - when did he even sleep after being at the gym past 2AM?

“He asked me to let you know,” Laura added.

He had? That meant he was at least thinking of her. Or was it just a formality? No, he must have genuinely been worried for her.

“Did he eat anything before leaving?” Maya asked.

Laura hesitated. “I don't believe so, Ma'am. Sir just rushed off, not even hearing his schedule. That only happens when he's in a bad mood.”

Oh. One night wouldn’t change anything between them, would it?

Malhotra Office

At the office, Ranveer brusquely brushed off his staff's congratulations.

“Good morning, Boss,” Aman greeted carefully as he entered Ranveer's office.

Ranveer just glowered, tossing his phone on the desk. “What's so good about it?”

Taken aback by his boss' sour mood, Aman wondered what could have happened to dampen his wedding excitement.

The call on Aman’s phone drew his attention though.

“It's Maya, your phone must be off,” he notified Ranveer.

“I switched it off,” Ranveer snapped.

As Aman considered answering, Ranveer stopped him. “Let it ring. Don't take calls from my wife.”

“But Boss,” Aman protested.

“Do as I say or quit and work for her instead,” Ranveer threatened.

Exhaling in defeat, Aman pocketed his phone. Something had clearly gone wrong overnight.

“Give me today’s agenda and just business as usual today. I don't want anyone thinking this is a celebration because I got married,” Ranveer ordered gruffly.

There went Aman's hopes for a surprise congratulatory cake. “Yes, Boss,” he complied glumly.

Ranveer struggled to concentrate as Aman reviewed his schedule, his heart and mind still in turmoil because of Maya.

A few hours before lunch, Aman nervously returned to Ranveer's office.

“Boss, can you come to the conference room?” he asked tentatively.

Ranveer looked up from his laptop, irritated. “Why? I’d said no meetings today.”

“It's an internal thing,” Aman hedged. “The team wants to urgently discuss some issues with you.”

“That's what is the HR for,” Ranveer dismissed.

“They can't take this to HR. Your presence is required,” Aman insisted. “It won't take long, please.”
