She got up to leave, and Ranveer followed her till the elevator.

“You told Kunal?” he asked on their way.

“Yes, and he wants me to accept your proposal. Looks like he is planning something, probably to hurt you through me.”

Ranveer wasn’t surprised but he didn’t like it either.

“We will talk tonight,” she added getting inside the elevator. “And be prepared. You will talk about your Ex’s tonight,” she warned him.

“What about my Ex’s?” he sounded panicked.

“Chill, Mr. Ranveer Malhotra. You will know that when I ask. See you in the evening.”

She pressed the button, and the doors of the elevator closed. Damn! He felt like he had an exam to prepare for tonight. And this was one such subject he could never risk failing.

Chapter 44

Same Evening

Maya waited patiently at the clinic for her mother to finish her session inside. She had asked Aisha to bring her mother’s previous medical reports from the car, which she forgot to carry with her.

“I knew this day would come soon in your life,” a known voice interrupted Maya. Adira Bajaj was standing a few feet away from her. What was she doing here? Adira’s eyes were swollen, probably due to a lack of sleep, and there were dark circles under her eyes too. What was wrong with her health?

“Genes, you see,” she continued to poke Maya, coming forward. Though Maya was aware that Vivek Bajaj or Adira was responsible for her previous accident, she felt no threat talking to her at this place. She could handle this conversation with her silly stepsister, couldn’t she?

“What are you talking about?” Maya got up from her seat. There was no one around, giving them a perfect atmosphere to talk privately.

“You are going psycho too, like your mother,” Adira grinned. “That’s why you are here.”

Maya was amused at her unnecessary blames.

“I think you should take care of yourself first before pointing at others. What are you doing here, Adira?”

That infuriated her.

“Dad thinks I am losing it,” she scoffed coming closer. “He thinks I will go insane because I cannot stop loving Ranveer,” she giggled. “The old man has lost it. We all have lost it, haven’t we? And you know where this all started? From your mother. That b*tc*.”

The moment Maya heard that slang word for her mother, she raised her hand and slapped Adira hard on her cheek. Adira almost stumbled back and fell on the ground.

“Get out of here before I call my guards and ask them to throw you out,” Maya lost her cool.

Adira laughed instead of being furious at Maya’s actions.

“You slapped me? You will pay for this, Maya. Very soon.” Threatening her, Adira walked out of the room, missing the radar of Aisha. Maya tried to calm down. Why couldn’t these Bajajs let them live in peace? How many more years were they going to be a trouble for them?

“Ma’am, your mother’s reports,” Aisha came back.

Maya took the file from her with a gentle nod.

“All okay, Ma’am? Did something happen?” Aisha scanned around.

“No, I am fine. Just tired. Nothing else.”

Maya lied on purpose. She didn’t want to pile up all her problems on Ranveer, especially when he himself was dealing with his own.
