Kunal grinned.

“I must say I like to ruin his reputation. And the best way to do that is to make him angry. When I realized his growing seriousness about you, I thought, why not use that opportunity? I want him to always be on the edge of jealousy. He should know how it feels when someone else gets close to your woman right before your eyes.”

She didn’t understand why he wanted that. Did they have a history there? Did Ranveer snatch Kunal’s girlfriend in the past?

“For now,” Kunal came back to the main subject. “You should marry him because that’s what will benefit all of us in the longer run.”

“How?” She was desperate to know their secret.

“You will know. But I need to ensure that you are not going to ditch us later. I want to be sure if you are still serious about avenging what Ranveer did to your modeling career.”

Maya knew if she wanted to win Malik’s confidence, she would have to agree to Kunal in that moment.

“If I didn’t had revenge in my mind, I would never enter this relationship with him,” she lied.

“Good.” He shook his head. “Then say yes to the marriage and wait for my next instructions.”

He threw a dirty grin at her and made his way out. An arm slid on her waist, making her jolt with its contact.

“Tell me he wasn’t flirting,” Ranveer snarled. His hardened jaw and red face affirmed his fury at the moment. He must have seen Kunal talking to her. He never liked her having much conversation with Kunal Malik from the start, and after Kunal’s unnecessary act of showing his affection for her in Jaipur, things got more complex with these two stepbrothers.

“Don’t take him seriously,” she replied. “He is not serious about me. He does it to make you jealous and frustrated.”

Ranveer didn’t understand.

“He told you that?”

“Yes. He draws satisfaction seeing you pissed.”

“Bro,” Dhruv came back. “You both are seriously boring. You should have been on the dance floor by now.”

Maya recalled their dance together in Sand Dunes Open Beach pub where he ended up kissing her without her consent. The same place where she mocked him about the Crushers group – his ex’s group. Dhruv dragged Ranveer and Maya into the center of the dance floor.

“Don’t get off this floor for the next twenty minutes at least. I am keeping a watch,” Dhruv threatened them and ran away. Maya shrugged her arms in defeat.

“This boy is seriously insane. I don’t want to be a laughing subject again.” She scanned the other couples who were perfectly sticking to their partners and lost in each other’s web. Ranveer recollected the same incident when he had kissed her in Sand Dunes because she had teased him. She had strictly put a condition after that never to repeat it or else she would cut off their deal then and there.

He slid his arm on her lower back to hold her in position.

“We just need to sync,” he whispered. Words zipped in her mouth as he gently swayed her along with him. Sync? With Ranveer Malhotra? But maybe it was not too hard. Besides the media was around.

“We are being clicked,” she murmured. He kept his eyes glued to her face, while hers were too busy counting other faces staring at them. When she realized a woman paparazzi, hiding behind the guests, taking only their picture so attentively, Maya felt nervous.

“There is this woman behind you, staring at us,” she mentioned to him.

“I have stopped seeing other women, Maya,” he cut her off.

A surge of current coursed through her veins, tumultuously scattering every rational thought. The abrupt flash of light from the camera that woman was holding broke her chain of thoughts.

“She is focusing only on us,” she exclaimed again. Ranveer inhaled deep.

“I can hide you if that’s what is bothering you, to look in your partner's eyes during the dance.”

Her pulse quickened. Anyone could read what he wanted from her, just looking into his eyes. Ranveer turned her around, facing her back to whoever the Paparazzi woman was.

“Ab theek hai?” (Now are you comfortable?)

Words glued to her tongue, frozen by his husky voice, heated gaze and touch. The pressure of his palm on her back was steady, possessive, sending tremors through her body. He tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear, his finger grazing her cheek, the languid caress stealing her breath again.
