“You too.” They quickly took their seats.

“So, what's happening in your life? Same old boring work, or anything interesting too?” Kusum asked.

Maya was momentarily speechless. Should she tell Kusum about Ranveer? But it's nothing serious. If she doesn't fake it, there are chances Kusum will find out from others, and it will possibly hurt her later.

“I am in a complicated relationship now,” Maya finally admitted.

Kusum laughed. “I know. I read some articles about it. Trust me, when I saw your picture with Ranveer Malhotra, I couldn't believe it at first. Anyways, you both look like a great couple.”

Maya faked another smile.

“So, this Jaipur trip is with him?”

Maya nodded dismissively. “Let's talk about you now,” she suggested.

“No, no. We always talk about me. Today it's going to be about you.”

Maya had no clue how to avoid that, but she decided to go with the flow.

“Fine. I will get the coffee for us first,” Maya said, getting up and walking to the self-service counter to pick up their coffees.

At the counter, another woman roughly bumped her, spilling coffee on Maya's dress. Maya bristled as the rude woman made no apology. Instead, she taunted Maya spitefully.

“How did that feel?” the woman mocked.

“You should apologize” Maya snapped.

“I won’t. What will you do?” She crossed her arms at front. “Going to call your bodyguard?”

Maya was confused by her hostility.

“Do we know each other?” Maya asked.

“I wish we didn’t.” The woman just laughed coldly.

Maya was losing her patience. “Who are you?”

“Why don't you ask your made-up boyfriend?” she spat before storming off.

Stunned, Maya wondered how this stranger knew about her charade with Ranveer. Aisha rushed over, offering to pursue the woman, but Maya declined, shaken. After reassuring Aisha she was fine, she cut short her meet with Kusum and then hurried to the car, not wanting to risk Ranveer's anger at her detour.

“I told you to get Maya back home straight from work,” Ranveer scowled at Aisha the moment they entered the house.

“Sir, I told Ma’am,” Aisha tried to explain.

Maya interrupted. “I had to see my friend. It is not Aisha’s fault.”

Aisha swallowed her nervousness, and when Maya gestured for her to leave, she quickly made her way out. Ranveer didn’t seem to be in a good mood.

“The detective had come?” Maya softly asked him.

“People are punctual, Maya. And they deserve the same from us.”

Maya rubbed her forehead. “I am sorry. I really had to see Kusum.”
