“Still, Iron man can’t fight without that damn suit of armor but he did make it which took a lot of damn effort and intelligence with tech, I gotta respect that. Captain America, I mean he’s a good old strong dude but he’s cut too smoothly. I relate to the smart asses so I guess I’d have to choose Iron man,” SynTanner continued. Blossom’s eyes widened. She hadn’t expected him to answer because like he said, he was an actual superhero.

“Seems we have the same kind of taste,” Blossom giggled. “I didn’t think you would be that into it.”

“Hey, I may be a badass cop but I never said I wasn’t a nerd,” he winked. Blossom found herself laughing again.

“Watching the avengers doesn’t make you a nerd,” she giggled, trying not to snort.

“Yeah but attending every comic con I could when I was a kid surely does,” he laughed.

“Who would have thought the deputy chief is a big fat nerd?!” Blossom exclaimed. SynTanner sat forward suddenly, bringing them nose to nose.

“And no one finds out or else,” he threatened. Blossom forced herself not to laugh.

“Or else what?” she breathed. SynTanner smirked at her. He moved his hands forward, digging his fingers in her stomach, tickling her.

“Or else I’ll kill you with laugher,” he declared. Blossom couldn’t control her snorts this time as he tickled the hell out of her.

“I give! I give!” She laughed, trying to submit so he would stop tickling her. Still, he continued to tickle her. Blossom fell out of her chair. SynTanner followed her down, landing on top of her. He stopped tickling her as he braced himself so he didn’t fall on top of her. Panting, he gazed down at her as he hovered over her body. Blossom caught her breath, a small giggle still leaving her. She wrapped her hands around his biceps, holding onto him. Taking a deep breath, she licked her lips.

“If I didn’t know any better SynTanner I would think you were thinking about kissing me,” she whispered.

“What would make you think such a thing?” he breathed.

“Just a thought,” she shrugged.

“No Blossom, I’m not thinking about kissing you. I’m thinking about what will happen after I kiss you. Something that we definitely can’t do in the conference room of the department where I work,” he added. SynTanner hovered his lips over hers, the temptation of kissing her almost too damn strong for him to resist. Fuck. He wanted to taste her lips. Still, he forced himself away from her. He got to his feet slowly, then reached his hand out to help her stand. SynTanner’s heart was thumping wildly in his chest. What was this feeling taking him over? Just what was it about this woman? SynTanner knew that he wasn’t going to stop until he found out. Even if it meant that he would forget the repercussions and taste her sweet mouth.

“You’re definitely sinful,” she whispered. The look she shot him was full of heat and caged passion. It was like she was a wild animal teetering on the edge of control.

“Don’t look at me like that, Blossom,” he groaned, feeling his body respond to the heated look she was giving.

“Like what?”

“Like you want to eat me alive,” he grumbled.

“Maybe I do Deputy SynTanner,” she replied lustfully. SynTanner’s whole body trembled at the timbre of her voice, his heart palpitating at the sound of her using his full title. No. He needed to figure out why in the hell that with just words this woman was making his stomach quake and knees buckle. All he knew was that if they weren’t in the station, she would already be naked and flush under his body.

Blossom sat back in her chair and steadied her breathing. She was going to get herself in some serious trouble if she didn’t reign her arousal in. How could she have just escaped her captor who made up this pretend marriage between them to now being aroused by the deputy Chief of police that she’d just met? What in the hell was wrong with her?

Sitting silently for some time, the both of them waited patiently to hear something from the detectives and the chief. Even though they were quiet, the space between them was still comfy and warm. With his heat next to her, Blossom’s eyes began to weigh down. She was fighting hard to keep her lids open. The events of the night were slowly taking a toll on her. She thought she had a control on staying awake until her head bobbed to the side roughly. She jumped up, blinking and holding herself steady in the chair. SynTanner was looking at her.

“Are you alright?” he asked softly. Blossom just nodded her head. SynTanner wanted to pull her into his arms and rest her head against his chest, aiding her to get some sleep but he knew that wouldn’t be appropriate here. He needed to get her out of here.

“Give me a moment, Blossom. I’m going to check on what’s going on,” he told her. Blossom nodded again. She tried to force a yawn back but it still emerged. Her eyes watered slightly. SynTanner smiled slightly thinking about how cute she looked trying to fight off her sleep.

Getting up slowly, SynTanner continued to watch her even as he walked towards the exit. At the door he paused for a moment to continue looking at her before he finally left. SynTanner noticed immediately that the detectives that were sent to Chance Lore’s home had returned. They were in the Chief’s office. Through the window, Chief Preston saw that SynTanner was looking into the office. Preston said something to the detectives before they were exiting the office. Preston followed them out. While the detectives walked by SynTanner, Preston stopped in front of him.

“Where’s Lore? Did you get him?” SynTanner asked.

“He was at his home when the detectives arrived and graciously let them in. They questioned him and he answered them all without any problems. He even let the detectives search his home without a search warrant. Not too many guilty people do that, Deputy.”

“Alright, so what are you saying?”

“I can’t divulge the questioning to you, Deputy. Not while you’re on sick leave and especially because we don’t have all the details. But what we do know is that we don’t have an arrest warrant, nor any evidence of her abduction. We need to dig deeper. Nothing at his home revealed probable cause to arrest him either. Not to mention he’s got the most powerful attorney on his payroll. If we don’t do this correctly, we’re all going down.”

“Seriously?” SynTanner breathed.

“It’s time to call it a night. We’ll start this fresh in the morning. Lore is in politics like I said. He’s not running anywhere. So, we don’t have to worry about that. Trust, he’s probably going to stick around for the simple fact that we seem to be accusing him of something and he wants to shove our faces in the mud once his innocence is proven,” Preston explained. SynTanner shook his head. Even though it was complete bullshit, SynTanner couldn’t argue. They didn’t have all the facts and without some kind of evidence no judge would issue an arrest warrant for someone of Chance Lore’s stature. SynTanner could only grunt. Preston led the way to the conference room. Blossom jumped up, trying to hide the fact that she was falling asleep.
