Ardol carefully laid down on top of her just long enough to ensure his swollen cock wouldn’t pull against her as they turned. Then, he rolled to his back, keeping her snuggled into the hot, soft nest of his fur. As he cradled her spent body and stroked her hair softly, he began purring.

“I love you. I promise—it’ll be all right.”

Like she hadn’t already figured that out. As long as he was with her, everything was all right. “I know. And I love you, too.”

Chapter Twenty-One

Ardol switched off the media viewer. His brother had made a fantastic mess at the annual Remember the Queens gala, confiding to a journalist that he was “quite repulsed” by the idea of marrying his half-cousin and was only doing so at his father’s command.

Was Behemet drunk? Stupid? Was the journalist pretending to be someone else?

“Bastet and Durga... What a mess.” Ardol groaned and put his head in his paws.

“Honey?” Jade’s voice immediately made his ears and spirits lift.

“I’m in the office!” Ardol stuck his head through the door and saw Jade hurrying down the passage. In the two cycles since they’d reunited with the Comet Stalker, she’d become as familiar with the ship as he was and almost as good at freight coordination and inventory management after sitting in on his trainings with Elio.

“I need you. Now. Right now. Rupex says it’s fine. And if you’re not back by morning, Elio says he’ll cover.” Jade marched over to him and seized his wrist, her small frame tugging him through the door.

It would have been comical if she wasn’t giving off the most luscious perfume, a scent that went straight to his cock and practically bent him double in his haste to be nearer to her.

“What’s wrong? What’s happening?” he managed to ask, his voice sounding thick and clumsy—probably due to the river of saliva that had flooded his mouth.

“Doc gave me my first shot this morning, and it’s kicked in. Gotta have sex. Now. Right now. Lots of it.” Jade was already plucking at his uniform.

“What? Already?”

“I told you we should wait a month to give Talos and Wendy Marcus’ undivided attention.” Jade pulled him into the elevator and jumped into his arms, biting softly on his neck.

Biting.

Every dormant predatory instinct came running out to play. Breed my Queen. Fuck her. Fill her with my essence. Watch our cub grow, watch our family begin.

But first—bury my face in that sweet slit and lick her until she squirts in my mouth...

Ardol practically shot out of his uniform, but he contented himself with rubbing Jade’s crotch to his own as they kissed in the elevator, waiting to reach their B Deck quarters.

“Since Wendy and Talos told us the good news at dinner last night, I figured I would check with Marcus today and just see... and he told me I’m at the right point in my cycle to start immediately. With a little luck, we’ll have our cub with us when we settle on Lynx-Nineteen next year.”

“Right. Good. um. How long did he say this heat lasts?”

“For human Queens, just two weeks at a time.”

“Two weeks of you wanting me all the time?”

“I already do that, silly.”

Ardol grinned as the elevator doors opened. With a bound, he was out of the shaft and carrying Jade to their room at a run. The bad news of the morning was forgotten. He decided he wouldn’t even tell Jade about it until later.

Two weeks later.

“Should we have Kamau send in snacks?” Jade asked, ripping her dress off over her head and making short work of his uniform, pulling it down over his shoulders as the closures popped.

Ardol growled eagerly, tackling her to the bed. “Mmhm. Probably. Oh, I think his shipment from the Milky Way Intergalactic Port is due to arrive next week. We ordered lots of your favorites.”

“Good. I’ll need to keep my energy up. Doc said so.”

“And Kamau insists,” Ardol said, and they both laughed, recalling how attentive the Servali chef was to the Queens aboard.
