The Domenent, Telranèl, snarled in my ear, only squeezing harder. I wheezed, unable to shake off his grasp.

“Let… me… go,” I choked out.

“Release her. Now.”

“No.” Another squeeze. “This one is mine—”

A hiss of magic popped around me like a whip. Instant relief flooded my ribcage as Telranèl released me. I bent over, gripping my knees, gulping in air. Gods. The angels had unmitigated strength we fae could do nothing against. I felt small. Powerless. How many had tried saying no but had no Domenent present to defend them?

“Are you done, faeretheth?”

I looked up, my cheeks burning. I glanced over at Telranèl and shuddered. My blood ran cold. Telranèl laid on the floor, his body contorted in a broken fashion I wasn’t sure he’d recover from. My knees buckled. I turned to the Domenent waiting on me. He seemed to read my mind. A smirk curled his lips, his eyes a murderous, gleaming thing.

“Don’t worry, Temptress.” A dark chuckle. “I’m not the one you should fear.” He turned around. “Now, come.”

I found my nerve and followed. The moment I stepped through the door, a thin mist obscured my sight.

“What in the—”

“Stop whining and let’s go. Telranèl isn’t the only one who’d like to get their hands on you.”

I shuddered, falling silent.

Angels were many things. Liar wasn’t one of them.

In a breath, my body whisked off the ground. I began floating up. Any chance of committing my steps to memory dissipated. We floated in silence until I felt a cold breeze slip between the folds of my skirts.

“Where are—”

“Be quiet,” the Domenent snapped.

I heard shuffling, then muffled voices, before I sensed a bright light in the dark. Without warning, I was dropped to the ground. Abruptly, the cloud-cloth was removed. With a shove, I was pushed into an ornate, oversized chamber where three Domenents seated in crystal chairs stared back at me.

“She finally arrives.” The sole female Domenent said, sounding bored. She was resplendent with a beauty that could blind common fae.

“She’s nice on the eyes,” the male beside her commented, his gaze drinking me in leisurely.

“But will it be enough?” Asked the third. His eyes slid to the female. “Nèrvanya? You know him best.”

Nèrvanya blushed, darkness shrouding her pretty chestnut and honey eyes. She snorted and looked away. “Yes. This one will do well.”

The first male tilted his head at me. “He does have a weakness for pretty little things he can feast on, doesn’t he?”

Staring across the three angels, it finally clicked who they were. A thousand questions collided in my mind all at once. Opening my mouth, I blurted out the one thought that boggled me the most.

“Obviously, you lot are Sky Watchers,” I butted in, jutting my chin at their cloaks, embroidered in Sky Watcher sigils. “But what in the skies do you want?”

The three Sky Watchers were clad in feathered armor of sky blues and ivory, their rich brown skin a warm contrast. Each had their hair braided in different styles, while weapons were sheathed across their backs. Nèrvanya watched me, expressionless. The males grinned as if they’d just won a prized ox.

“You heard her.” The first male’s eyes glittered. “What do we want, Kiranon?”

For a moment, Kiranon said nothing, his amber-honey eyes glowing.

“Have a seat, Temptress of Un’Sèlie. My siblings and I will make this quick.”

Kiranon waved his fingers. A goblet of wine surfaced before me, full to the brim. I wasted no time taking several sips to cool my nerves. I instantly felt a slight fuzziness, but I ignored the sirens of alarm going off in my mind.

“We have a proposition for you.”
