“Lightheart.”

“Yes, my Domenent.”

I nudged her ear with the tip of my nose.

“Will you swim with me?”

She looked into my eyes, a flash of mischief crossing her face. Her lips curled upward.

“If you answer me this.”

“What would you like to know, Sèlie of my hearts?”

“My Zhèmson,” she cooed, shattering my control. “What is the secret to your ethèr?”

Without hesitation, I leaned down and whispered in her ear, “I thought you’d figured it out by now, beautiful. If seven unused cords woven from vipèrrsilk are used to tie me down, I will be weakened like any angel and stripped of my strength.”

“Vipèrrsilk? That’s an odd thing to hold power over you.”

“Yet it does.” I watched her, searching for her motive behind the question. She looked innocent, curious to learn more about me. I smiled, kissing her deeply, pushing away my suspicion.

“Are you done with the charades? I want us to take a swim. It’s one of my favorite pastimes.”

She smiled sweetly, batting her lashes at me.

“Yes, my Domenent. Let’s go for a swim.”

In quick motion, Daliah pulled up her dress and slipped it off, leaving herself bare and proud. I choked, consuming every inch of her glorious body. I licked my lips, stepping closer.

“Your turn.”

Her smile sparked a flame so hot in my chest I nearly went blind from it. Tauntingly, I pried off my tunic and shucked off my breeches. Daliah’s eyes snagged on my muscled chest and snaked down. Down.

Down.

Her eyes widened, her nostrils flaring. I grinned wolfishly. I had no shame fully displaying my burning need for her.

“When you’re done gawking, Lightheart, I’m ready for that swim.”

She panted, unable to look away.

“I… you… gods.”

I chuckled, wrapping a wing around her waist. Then, with a swift motion, I tossed her into the water and jumped in after her.

Daliah

The first thing I recalled was slamming into warm water.

The second thing I remembered was I couldn’t swim.

I sank beneath the waters of the sea. Panicking, I jerked around, thrashing against the tides of lavender. I opened my mouth, unable to ignore the fire compressing my chest. Water poured in like a flood. My body seized, sinking like I was tied to an anchor. I flailed, my legs kicking out, but neither motion brought me closer to the surface.

I looked down at the depths of the sea. A mistake. The waters were still clear, showing all the life that thrived in the waters below. Chromatic colored reefs littered the watery depths with mounds of all shapes and sizes. Watching the sea life swim below me was an unimaginable wonder. Their colors, shapes, and sizes were mesmerizing. The sea had unveiled a snippet of her secrets.

It also showed the creature, three times the size of Sairi, with scarlet eyes, golden scales, and razor sharp fins, blinking up at me.

I squealed as my heart constricted. Numbness crept into my limbs. Blackness began filling the corners of my vision. Abruptly, I was yanked from the water by a pair of blazing amber wings. Categorical fear flooded Zhèmson’s eyes. He was beside me in an instant, his shoulders trembling.
