“Charge it to having the blood of Transcendents in my veins.” He chuckled, and looked away, as if reminiscing. “Don’t get sentimental on me now, Temptress. I know you came here because of a bargain.” His eyes flickered to me. “I just wonder how much that bargain is going to cost me.”

“Really, I only want to know your name.”

His eyes flashed.

“You’ll rot in here with me before I become so dense.”

I fought the urge to shower him with foul curses. By the grace of the gods, I remembered to reign in my temper. Leaning forward, I twirled the curls of my hair, and beat my lashes at the Condemned.

“I think if we’re going to be in here together, it’s only right we’re at least cordial with one another.” A smile. “Your name will suffice.”

His nostrils flared. He licked his lips, struggling to keep his eyes from roving over my body.

“Arrogant and persistent.” His eyes glittered dangerously. The slightest quirk lifted the corners of his lips. “Where did they find you?”

I smiled sweetly.

He swallowed.

I bit my bottom lip.

He caught the movement and snarled, abruptly pushing back from the table. Trying to breathe, he looked away.

“Temptress,” he cursed.

I grunted, tired of the nonsense. There’d be plenty of time to win him over. The games had only just begun. For now, I was getting bored. Pushing out of my chair, I turned to an open door, curious to see where it would lead me.

“I suppose they were right,” I said. “You really are a Condemned. Pity. I was hoping they were wrong.”

I started making my way to the door, stuffed with food. I was beyond frustrated. It was never hard getting males to loosen their tongues, yet I couldn’t even get this rotting angel’s name. I pushed aside my annoyance. Right as I went to cross the threshold, I heard him whisper.

“Condemned. Is that what they told you?” A snort. “And of course you believed them. Pretty, little, ignoramus.”

My jaw hung. I whipped around, fire lighting my tongue. Before I could spit out a retort, the angel shot out of his seat, flapping his wings into the air. Without a word, he spun like a graceful dancer out of the chamber and flew away.

Zhèmson

Flying through the tower, I hurled myself into a vacant chamber on one of the higher floors and slammed the door behind me. I gripped my chest, feeling the beat of my six hearts. They thrashed wildly, pounding in a way I hadn’t felt in much too long. I bent over, gulping in air, trying to fill my lungs.

What was wrong with me?

Slinking to the carpet, I brought my forehead to the floor, fighting to calm myself down. I tried forcing the pretty fae from my mind.

I couldn’t.

Hells.

My mind raced with her luscious curves. The coils of her purple hair. The proud lift of her full lips. Those cunning, dangerous blades that gleamed in her silver eyes. It took every bit of my strength not to fly across the table, rip off the silk from her skin, and ravage her. Her scent alone drove me mad. Surely the Alpha found it time to curse me beyond reason.

How could I behave myself around the sexy, gorgeous Temptress?

She was already prancing around like she was the queen of the tower. I wanted to bite into the curve of her ears. Grip her waist and make her scream. I exploded, punching the floor again and again. I had to release this pent up dissatisfaction.

She wasn’t the first faeretheth the Sky Watchers had sent here to undermine me. Flirtatious fae in lace meant to worm their way into my bed and distract me to destruction. I scoffed. Imbeciles. By the time I was done with the harlots, they begged to stay in the tower as my lover. Alone as I was, I didn’t mind it. But each time the Sky Watchers returned, taking the faeretheth with them. I always wondered what happened to the fae when they were gone. Every few cycles, they’d send another, and the results would be the same. The fae, both Sèlie and Un’Sèlie, could never break me.

Until now.

Shoving to my feet, I floated into the air.
