“Try.” He trailed his tongue down my neck, making me forget why we were in the gym and not his bed.

I thrashed under him, likely resembling a dying fish. “You’re too heavy.”

He bit my shoulder before soothing it with a kiss. “You’re stronger than this.”

“I’ve tried!” I bucked against him, unable to even lift my stomach off the ground.

“You can do anything, babe.”

He kissed my other shoulder and lifted his hands, no longer even trying to keep me in place. His hands landed on my back, pressing me down but giving me back the use of my arms.

I immediately tucked them against me, pushing up with all my might. He wobbled but didn’t move. I was able to get a few inches of space before dropping down.

I kicked my feet, not to get free, more to throw a mini tantrum.

“Come on,” he coaxed.

I wanted to punch him. I was allowed to have a weakness. Just one. I was well aware of it and did all I could to avoid ever getting stuck in it. He got lucky. If this fight had been real, I would have killed him when I had my claws out, preventing this entirely.

But he wasn’t going to let me up. No, he was enjoying this too much, rubbing his thumbs up my spine and peppering my exposed skin with kisses.

Not that I minded. It felt nice.

Okay, better than nice.

It had been too long since we’d been together like this, without a professional distance between us, and his constant touches were driving me crazy.

“Derek,” I groaned.

“Emilia,” he mimicked me as he reached back and spanked my ass. “Don’t give up.”

I wasn’t. I was accepting the truth. I was too small, too weak, to overthrow a full-grown shifter when he was sitting on my thighs and pinning me to the floor.

I tried to push up again, hoping to catch him off guard, and he slipped to my left side but quickly corrected himself. “Good. Use distractions.”

In a real fight, I wouldn’t have time for distractions. My body would be going cold by now.

I grunted, kicking my feet up and striking him in the back. I used all the upper body strength I could muster to throw him off.

He lost his balance, and I continued, not giving him a chance to catch up, tucking my feet up to my hands like I was doing a burpee before somersaulting farther away in what I hoped was an unexpected move. I jumped to my feet and spun to face him with my fists up.

He smiled up from his crouch. “Damn. That was hot.”

Before I had a chance to gloat, he sprang forward, catching me around my waist and throwing me over his shoulder. Then he ran from the room and down the hall, which echoed with my laughter.

Marco jumped out of the way and back into the security room. “Watch it!”

“You’re more than welcome to.” I winked as I hung upside down and he froze.

Derek tossed me onto his mattress, not wasting a second before pushing his sweats and compression shorts to the ground.

“You listened to me.” He slid his thumb into the waistband of my leggings and tugged them down. “Good girl.”

I bit my lip and watched as he climbed onto the bed.

Marco stepped into the room, undressing.“I had an idea the other night.”

“Yeah?” Derek asked, not taking his eyes off me as he straddled my thighs.
