“I saw you come out of your building, sweetheart. I just called to confirm the unit, so my staff could make sure it got to you. They weren’t allowed past the front door, which I have to say I am a fan of. I’d have to have a word with the guards if they allowed a stranger off the street to your front door.”

He spoke to someone else, reminding them not to be late.

Javier nodded. His explanation was entirely possible.

“Go have a conversation about giving out her unit,” Marco barked at Derek.

He set his mug on the counter and left the apartment.

“It’s like they can only listen to one direction at a time. Don’t let anyone up, but sure, give out her information . . .” Marco pinched the bridge of his nose.

“The invitation doesn’t mention dress code,” I spoke over him, hoping Alessio couldn’t hear his annoyed grumbling.

“It’s a club opening. You can get away with anything from a gown to jeans.”

Well, that only made it more complicated. “Is Ama going?”

“Yes,” he sounded hesitant.

“Is she around by chance?”

He chuckled. “Yeah, one moment.”

“Ama, Millie would like to talk to you,” he called, and I waited for her.

“Hi, Millie,” she sounded genuinely happy.

“Hi, so your brother invited me to this party tonight, but isn’t being very helpful.”

“I can’t imagine that ever happening,” she chuckled.

“He said to wear anything from a gown to jeans,” I deadpanned, making her laugh harder.

“What the hell, Alessio?” Her voice was quieter, likely holding the phone away from her. “You’re useless.”

“How is that wrong?” he called to her.

“Good job asking for me.” She was talking to me now. “I’m wearing a silver sequin dress and heels. It fits like a slip dress and hits a few inches above my knees. Most women will wear something similar. Typical club wear but classier ‘cause you know, rich people.”

I couldn’t help it. I laughed. “That’s exactly what I needed. Thank you so much.”

“Anytime,” she called for her brother, and he came back.

“I’ll work on my fashion knowledge, so I won’t let you down next time.” The smile in his voice sang over the line.

“That’s all I’m asking.”

Fuck. The guys were watching me, and I couldn’t stop the grin on my face. I shouldn’t be bantering with him. I shouldn’t feel so at ease teasing him and talking to his sister.

He was a job.

But I was supposed to get close to him.

This had to be as close to real as possible.

So what if I flirted? I’d already fucked him, and they all knew that.

I shifted slightly, so I could look out the windows. “I’ll put away the turtleneck and slacks I was planning.”
