But it does slide, and it lathers.

All the tension I’ve held back today beats and thrums into a crescendo. Between my fingers and my feverish imagination, the slather and the slippery, elusive friction build my pulse up to a critical mass. An unstoppable pressure, ready to burst, come whatever may.

My chest tightens and my knees turn to water as my thighs tingle and quiver.

I can’t stop my slick fingers, pushing the rhythm higher and up to the tipping point then, almost flippantly, tossing me over the edge.

Warm water trickles and floods over me as I slide down to sit in the corner of the shower, trembling. Emptied. Free of thought. Lost in the pool of draining water. Almost purged and cleansed.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

With my hair dry and my clothes back on, I’m sitting on the side of the bed with my phone. At least I’m feeling refreshed, if not completely renewed.

My choices here are limited.

I can appeal to Daddy to change his mind. That’s never worked. Not once, in my experience. Not for me or for anyone else.

Excluding Miko and Chris, the two princes, of course. Naturally, they can do whatever they like. Daddy will indulge any damned thing they do with a shake of his head and a boys will be boys gleam in his eyes.

So, I can try to hold my own with the Fortuna brothers. All three of them. What I’ve seen so far makes that seem from any angle like a bad option. The two I’ve already met are too strong and powerful for me to stand a chance. And too ruthless. Is there ever any point where men like them would stop and draw a line? Would they ever think they were going too far?

A long, low sigh tears out of my chest. Damn.

Aside from those two bleak prospects, my only remaining choice would seem to be to break out and run.

So I think about my supposed but not really boyfriend, Federico.

If I texted him, would he come and get me? His ship sails tonight, so that would be a big ask. When he said that he would be in the bar at nine thirty, I figure he had a full day of preparation before then.

I’m about to take out my phone to check his message again when the connecting door bursts open.

Filling the door frame, hot and huge, Alessio is there. Just stepping into my room when he feels like it. His eyes glow like they’re about to melt all my clothes off.

“Have you even heard of knocking?” I twist my mouth, then chew my cheek as he stares back.

A lazy drawl this time, with a faint but unmistakeable hint of a smirk. “Sure. Knock any time you like. I meant to say, dinner will be early today. We’ll sit down at the table at six. Be downstairs by quarter of.”

“I’m not usually hungry that early.”

A moment of cold silence is enough to make me wish I’d kept quiet.

A perfectly manicured eyebrow lifts as his eyelids lower. “Did you think I was asking you a question?”

His eyes narrow a fraction more as he waits, like he wants to see if I’ll be foolish enough to try and cross him again. It’s not even a challenge. Not even a warning.

“Quarter of.” He pauses, like he’s turning something over in his mind. His eyes tour around my body, taking their sweet time. “Don’t change.”

My voice trembles, but I draw myself up. Tilt my chin. “You boys want to have some more fun with what I’m wearing?”

When he chuckles, looking over the curves of my ass in my tight jeans and the swell of my breasts under my soft cotton shirt, my gut shakes on every cruel beat. I feel every bounce, deep down inside me.

He reaches to pinch my nipple. Hard. Hard enough that finally my mouth tightens. Then he slaps my ass sharp and hard.

He says, “I don’t think we’ll run short of ways to have fun with you, no matter what you wrap yourself in.”

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

However determined I was to take my time, at the last minute I lose my nerve. I strut downstairs at twenty of six to find where dinner is going to be.
