Moving past him to reclaim my seat, I hissed, “In your damn dreams.”

He let out a big, hearty laugh as I returned my focus to my computer. Before I could get back to the task at hand, though, a message popped up on my phone.

Justice: Girl, that man is too damn fine!

I sent back: And crazy.

Justice: I bet he got some crazy dick too.

I sighed heavily and got back to work.

Hours passed of me replying to emails, filing documents, reconciling transactions, and basically being a responsible business owner while Ray kept his attention on his phone, texting and making calls, including one during which he spoke exclusively in Spanish. That had me staring at him. His response to my gawking? He gave me a wink.

Although I was under his siege, the time spent in my office was rather peaceful, a good change from having to pee, poop, and shower with the bathroom door wide open or deal with him doing the same. He didn’t watch me, though. At least, I didn’t think he did. I wasn’t sure if I really cared either way since my body being exposed to this man was the least of my worries.

When he lifted from his chair, I grew hopeful that he would leave and give me a minute to breathe.

He did move to the door but said, “Come on.”

I frowned, turning to face him. “Where am I going?”

“Upstairs. Time for lunch. Plus, I gotta piss. I’m sure you do, too.”

“I can use the employee restroom, and I’m not hungry.”

He stared at me.

I stared back.

“Lilith,” he growled, “get yo’ ass up and let’s fucking go!”

So…I left my office, startled when my doorbell rang.

Wordlessly, he grasped my hand while opening the outer door. “Ah, gracias!” he said, vacating the doorway.

A Hispanic man walked in, tall and wide wearing all black—suit, shirt, and tie. He nodded at me, turning to hand a bag to Ray. That’s when I noticed a white earpiece in this newcomer’s ear. It was similar to the ones federal agents or secret service members wore in the movies. It had one of those curly cords attached to it.

“Lilith, this is Bruno, a coworker of mine. Bruno, this is Lilith,” Ray said.

“Good to meet you, Leelit,” Bruno returned in a thick accent.

I nodded and dropped my gaze to my hand encased in my tormentor’s much larger one.

The two men conversed in Spanish before Bruno waved at me and left.

Ray gave me a smile while squeezing my hand. “Bruno brought lunch.” Then he released my hand and nodded toward the staircase. “Ladies first.”

Rolling my eyes, I trudged up the stairs. “Smells like fried…chicken?”

“Yep. I’ma have to feed you today?” Ray responded.

“No,” I sighed.

“Good girl.”

I was so over this shit.

I swear, I woke up every morning hoping he’d just drop dead or disappear or just fucking leave. He was taking another damn shower, not that it was unusual for a person to shower daily. I did, too. It was just that everything he did irritated the living shit out of me. Plus, there were sliding glass doors for the shower and while he could keep an eye on me sitting at the foot of the bed, I could also see him.
