“You want to help?” I ask, then turn to a massive pile of cookies, brownies, cinnamon rolls and coffee cake on the counter. “What are we doing with these?”

He looks at the pile of baked goods and then back to me. “I figured you had a plan.”

“Nope.” I reach out and grab a cinnamon roll, then turn to Ty with a sly smile. “I know how you can help…”

His eyes drop to the cinnamon roll in my hand, then back up to me. “What?”

I hold it out to him. “Take a bite.”

Ty shakes his head. “I don’t want any.”

“Oh, but I think you do.” I step forward, still holding it out to him. “Come on, Tiger. Not even going to take a taste of your first baking experience?” With a tilt of my head, I put on my best puppy dog eyes. “For me?”

He doesn’t move for a moment as he continues to blankly stare back at me. But then, my heart fucking riots as he sighs and rolls his eyes, leaning forward to take a bite out of the cinnamon roll.

Nope. Not a riot… it’s going to fucking explode.

And if it does, I’ll at least die happy.

“That was hot,” I whisper, all the blood rushing to my cock as he licks some cinnamon sugar off his lip.

With a wary look aimed my way, Ty turns away from me and to the coffee maker. “Go get dressed. We need to get to the gym.”

“You guys are here late,” Max greets us as Ty and I enter the gym. “You’re usually the first ones in.”

“Yeah,” I sigh with a nod. “Sorry about that, boss. I wore Ty out last night teaching him about wrist action with buns and balls.”

Max’s eyes flick between us as his smile falls and Ty sighs.

“Oh god, not like that.” I wave a hand in the air with a scoff. “Come on, Max, get your mind out of the gutter. We were baking. It’s all about folding in the wet and dry ingredients just right, and getting the perfect size balls for soft, gooey cookies.”

Max nods slowly. “Ok then.”

“Where do you want us today?” Ty asks, rubbing a hand over his face.

“Weights,” Max says. “And tomorrow, I want you both on the mats for a full roll.” He looks at me with a smirk. “You want to go hard on grappling for this fight, so let’s see it. Then,” his eyes slide to Ty, “we’re going to have to get in the cage soon and spar.”

Ty nods stiffly, adjusting his bag on his shoulder. “Yeah.”

“I want to see some spars in the ring this week too,” Max says to him, his tone softening a bit. “Del will be here to take you through some drills as well. We can talk more about it tomorrow.”

“Ok.” Ty nods again, dropping his eyes.

“Have a good workout.” Max reaches out to squeeze Ty’s shoulder and gives me a nod as he leaves.

And Ty immediately heads for the locker room.

As I follow him, I see him retreat further and further into his head with each step he takes. And yeah… that was a lot. He only has two weeks to prove to Max that he can do this, and the pressure is quickly rising as expectations for training increase.

Ty pulls his locker door open and tosses his bag on the bench. He’s completely in his head now, and I know it’s going to be hard to pull him out this time.

But just as I start to think about how I can do that, my phone buzzes in my pocket. I close my eyes and blow out a breath. I know exactly who that’s going to be. And when I pull my phone out, I wish I didn’t even bother checking.

Dad

Luca, this has gone on long enough. We listened, we heard you, and we are trying our hardest to work with you. But you need to let us. You have an opportunity within your reach, which is exactly what you want. You can continue to live near St. Louis and attend your gym. We want to help you formulate your response to Anthony and submit your application so you can be a competitive candidate. Your mother did you a huge favor by putting your name out there. Don’t let her, or yourself, down.

How quickly things can go back to being so shitty.
