I catch the other teller going over to her as I wait for Sadie to enter Mrs. Doyle’s office. Cora leans in but sees me looking and straightens her back. Yup. People don’t change their spots.

“Sadie. Jude. I heard the news. Congratulations.” Mrs. Doyle signals with her hand for us to sit in front of her.

“Thank you.” Sadie sits in the farthest chair, and I sit beside her, reaching for her hand.

Mrs. Doyle clocks our hands and makes a small noise. “I’m assuming you’re here to apply for the loan?”

“Yes. We brought our marriage license, and Jude has everything he needs.”

Mrs. Doyle turns her attention to me. “Great. Glad this all worked out for you.”

Her eyes shift to Sadie, and I’m not really thrilled by the judgmental look on her face. But for now, I’ll keep my mouth shut so I don’t screw this up.

I lift my wrist. It’s Monday, and although I’m technically off because of the wedding, I still don’t want to be here all day.

“Let’s get to the paperwork then.” Mrs. Doyle turns to her computer.

Sadie glances at me, and I smile, squeezing her hand. She’s got that look, as if questioning me if I really want to do this. That it’s the last chance to say no. She’s crazy if she thinks I wouldn’t give her my last penny.

We go through the form, with me giving Mrs. Doyle most of the information—more than Sadie probably knows. My net worth is the biggest secret she probably had no idea about. She’s unfazed when I tell Mrs. Doyle, so maybe she assumed. I don’t know.

We both sign, and Mrs. Doyle says we should know in a few days.

“Bye, newlyweds!” Cora yells right before we walk out of the bank.

Sadie smiles and waves while I nod and open the doors for Sadie to go outside.

“Cora drives me fucking crazy,” I say when we reach the sidewalk.

“She’s not so bad.”

“She’s fake as shit. Bet she’s talking shit about us to that other teller as we speak.”

Sadie stops me at the front of my truck and fists my T-shirt. “Who cares what people think?”

She tugs me down, and I easily follow her direction, our lips meeting. Our kisses are becoming addictive, so I’m thankful she pulled me in instead of me always kissing her. We barely made it through breakfast without our lips attached to one another and our hands roaming. It’s crazy to think how much the past twenty-four hours have changed my entire life.

“Let’s go,” I say, walking her to the passenger side of the truck.

Now we’re off to her house to move her into mine. The sun gleams on my wedding band. I never thought I’d be a ring guy, but I kind of like looking at it and knowing Sadie gave it to me. Even if it was for a bullshit reason.

We drive over to Sadie’s cottage through the back entrance, and I park behind her cottage because it will be easier to move the stuff out the back door than the front.

“You know that day you were in a towel?” I ask, standing in the small hallway while she’s in her bedroom, packing up the last of her clothes.

“Yeah?”

“Can we redo that day? You come out of the shower in a towel. I promise to make it worth your while.” I lie on her bed, my hand running along her back as she sorts through her clothes.

“I don’t know how much to bring.”

“All of it.” I scoot up and kiss her neck, trailing my way up to her earlobe.

“What are you doing?” she asks, continuing to fill her box.

“What do you think I’m doing?” I swing my leg on the other side of hers, straddling her from behind, and slide my hands up the hem of her shirt.

She leans back into me. “Distracting me. That’s what you’re doing.”
