“Anything for family.” She walks us out but gets distracted by directing the employees to do something. “I’ll catch you two later. Congratulations!”

She waves, and we wave back before walking out the doors.

“Tantric yoga? What the hell is that?” Jude walks toward the UTV.

“There’s something called the internet. Look it up.” I slide into the seat beside him, and he revs up the UTV. Maybe this is getting too real for him. “We don’t have to do it.”

“If most couples do it, we should too.”

I’m surprised that Jude isn’t taking on his usual attitude of “who gives a shit what people think.” He’s putting forth a lot of effort to make this look real.

“Okay. Well, if you get uncomfortable, we can cut it short.”

He stops at the bridge that crosses the river by Ben’s house. “Don’t worry about me. Whatever you want, Sadie, ask for it. This is your wedding.”

He presses on the gas, and I sit there silently because if I told him what I really want, it would be him. I care about a wedding, but at this point, I would be happy to have Jude be more than just my friend. But I need to concentrate on getting this chicken farm off the ground, and I can’t risk changing our dynamic and messing that up.

“Everything she suggested is fine.” I cross my legs and let the wind run through my hair.

He pulls into his garage, and I climb out, ready to go to my car.

“Stay,” he says.

“You have to get back to work.”

Jude shakes his head. “Dad gave me the afternoon off. How about we put the wedding aside and talk chicken farm?”

I smile and walk over to him. “Sure.”

“I was looking through your plans…”

We go up to his porch and into his house, where I find all the papers I gave him on the coffee table. I must have been distracted earlier by him coming down the stairs just out of the shower. We grab some drinks and chips and salsa, sitting down to go through our to-do list in priority order.

Yeah, I might not be marrying him because he loves me, but I’m still marrying one hell of a man.

Chapter Fourteen

Jude

The first thing on the agenda is the cake tasting, which I’m not complaining about.

I park my truck downtown and sit to wait for her. I’m meeting Sadie here since she went to a farm a county over to see their chicken farm and get more information. I’m not a small talk kind of guy, so rather than go inside the bakery and wait for Sadie there, I look up tantric yoga on my phone.

Fuck. My body doesn’t bend like the people in this video. It’s going to be a disaster.

A bang on my window almost makes my heart stop in my chest.

“Fucking hell.” I roll down the window to speak to Ben.

“Why are you watching porn in your truck?” he asks.

“I’m waiting for Sadie. And I’m not watching porn. Go away.”

“Since my fiancée got dragged here this morning to help Laurel with your wedding cake, you can keep me busy until Sadie gets here.”

“You do know that the two of you aren’t conjoined twins? You can do things separately, right?”

“Sundays are our days together.” He opens my door and waits for me to step out.
