Orion moves like a bolt of lightning and comes up behind me. I barely register the shift, finding myself enveloped in his arms as he holds me tight and breathes me in. “I’m so sorry,” he whispers in my ear. “We were scared of losing you, Nadia. We chose to hurt you in the short term if it meant keeping you safe in the long term.”

“Orion …” I mumble, unable to think properly anymore. “I’m still hurting.”

“I know. We’ve been hurting, too. It’s why we’re here,” he says.

I can hear Drake and Kai’s footsteps moving closer. They come around, flanking us with sullen eyes, their hands reaching out. They gently caress my face, and Kai leans in for a kiss. I welcome his lips on mine, his spicy sweetness, and his warm breath on my cheek.

I welcome Drake’s hand on my breast, fingers digging into the tender flesh, not caring for the layers of fabric in between. I welcome the feel of Orion’s cock pressed against my ass cheeks as the three of them huddle tighter together.

“For fuck’s sake,” I whimper, realizing how easy it is for me to simply give in.

I’m close to crying, sincerely happy to feel them wrapping around me like this. We kiss and hug, touch one another, and take in deep breaths. I hide my face in Drake’s chest, but Orion captures my mouth in a deep, hungry kiss. Kai runs his fingers through my hair, and I slowly melt, simmering with every touch, every fluttering kiss, every tip of the tongue trailing invisible lines down the side of my neck.

“I’m serious, Nadia; we do need to talk,” Orion says.

But I’m hazy and lost. I’ll do whatever he wants, and he knows it. “Let me close up first,” I tell him.

“We’ll wait,” he replies. “I brought an extra helmet for you.”

My pulse is still racing as I get off his bike. It was my first time, and I loved it. My dad gave up on motorcycles altogether when he left the Blackthorn Riders. He always said he didn’t regret that decision, but as I try to reconnect with my body after such an electrical throng of incredible sensations, I have to wonder … was he out of his effing mind? Why would he ever give up on what is arguably the best feeling in the world?

For as long as I can remember, my father made sure I never even flirted with the idea of riding a motorcycle. Looking back now, I get it—the danger surrounding it all. He didn’t want me having any contact with this world, with the club, with the people in it. I was his precious angel, his priceless jewel.

I can’t help but laugh as I take my helmet off and inhale deeply.

“What is it?” Orion asks, pulling the keys out of the ignition.

We’re outside the Sherry Bed & Breakfast, a beautiful little retreat on the Pacific coastline just a couple miles south of Carlsbad. The ocean spreads to our left with its deep shades of blue and a brilliant, clear sky overhead.

“I’m just thinking about my dad and how hard he tried to keep me away from you, from your world,” I finally say when I catch my breath.

Drake chuckles softly. “And look where that got him.”

“He’d blow a gasket,” I reply.

Kai smiles and nods at the Sherry B&B. “What do you think? Do you like it? We can find another place if you want.”

“No, no, it’s lovely,” I say, taking a moment to record every inch of the place with my mind’s eye. “It’s beautiful, really.”

“And private,” Orion adds.

We agreed to go somewhere out of town for the night. It’s safer for me, and it’s easier for them, just in case any of Colton’s people were thinking of following us. We took the lesser traveled roads to get here, snaking along the coast and through the literal backwoods of Orange County before riding through Carlsbad.

Now and then, we stopped to talk—a good excuse for them to check and see if we had any tails. They told me what Orion and Colton had discussed during Colton’s unexpected visit and his insane demands. Now that I know more about him, I am shaken to the core. My bravado has dwindled as I fully understand the kind of beast they’re dealing with.

My father had warned me. So did Paddy.

Being aware of all of the facts, along with the recent incidents targeting the Blackthorn Riders directly, strikes a different chord. I’m worried about the guys. I know they are fearless and ruthless when they need to be, yet I also know they don’t want to go down this road.

They saw so much violence and death during the time they served in the Navy. Then they came back to take over the club, only to land knee-deep in more violence. They’ve been working so hard to turn the Blackthorn Riders toward a legit path.

Colton Harrow threatens to upend everything.

“I booked us into their biggest suite,” Drake says, briefly checking his phone before we go inside. The guys and I follow as he stops by the reception desk. “Hi there, reservation for Williams, please.”

“Hola!” the plump and rosy-cheeked receptionist replies. “Sure thing; let me check our system and get you your keys.”

Ten minutes later, we’re upstairs and decompressing in the master bedroom.
