A furious glare meets me in the mirror. “That’s not fair. I have dedicated everything I am to you and your family.”

“Have being the operative word. But since Siobhan got her hooks into you, you’re fucking up. I told you I didn’t want her in my business?—”

“—And I’ve honored that. She just…”

“What?” I ask. “She just what?”

His square jaw clenches as he returns his attention to the road. “She noticed something on my laptop and struck up a conversation about it.”

I sink back into my seat and let off a string of curses. “Your password protected laptop? The one for your eyes only? What the fuck is she doing looking at anything on there?”

He lifts his chin and stares straight out the windshield. “I found her looking at it the other night. She said she bumped it, and the screen came to life.”

“Bullshit. She’s a fucking liar, mate. She’s got your password and is using you to get info on me and mine.”

“Why would she do that? She’s loyal to the Quinns.”

“Och, no. Siobhan Daley is loyal to herself and the person willing to pay her the highest reward for what she’s got. Given the tension between us and the McGuires, I’d bet my balls she’s flipped sides.”

“You can’t mean that.”

“I’ve never meant anything more.” I pull out my phone and text a family-wide message.

Siobhan Daley is out. Close her access. Burn her bridges. Assume she’s with the McGuires. If you see her, I want a full account of where she goes and who she sees.

The message pops up on Aiden’s watch and he curses. “No. Don’t do that. You’re wrong.”

“I don’t think I am, sham. And I’m sorry, but as long as she’s in your bed, you’re out too.”

The hurt and betrayal that flashes in his eyes cuts me to the core. “You can’t be serious.”

“I am.” My phone buzzes in my hand and Rose’s name pops up on my screen. I swipe green to answer it and place it to my ear. “Hello, Rose. To what do I owe?—”

“Tag, I’m in trouble,” she interrupts, her voice breathy and whispered. “Someone smashed in my front door.”

“Get to your safe room.”

“I’m locked in. Hurry.”

I meet Aiden’s gaze. “Rose’s place. Now. Call for backup.”

Aiden pulls a quick turnaround and we shoot off amongst the honking of angry drivers.

“We’re on our way, Rose. Stay in that room no matter what.”

“Thanks, lad. That’s the plan.”

CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO

Laine

Ilast about half an hour after Tag leaves before my thoughts are swirling, wondering how things will go tonight at the charity fight. He is expecting trouble from the McGuires—so much so that he wore a Kevlar vest underneath his dress shirt.

The thought that he’s going out, knowing he might well be a target, twists in my belly.

I need something to ground me, something comforting. Heading for the kitchen, my mind settles on the idea of the raspberry and chocolate mousse cake we had the other night.

Decadent, indulgent, and perfect to ease my tummy.
