“Muzzire,” Aizor said in a dead tone, carefully lowering me to the ground and tucking me behind his big body. “Why?”

“We don’t need mates like this. We have females,” Muzzire cried out. “Don’t go inside. Then the gods will send her away.”

“I’m staying,” I said. “We came here to tell them that.”

“Then you’ll die.” With his weapon lifted, he leaped forward.

Aizor barreled into Muzzire, sending him flying back against the outside wall of the crystal building. Before he could follow up the blow with a slash of his blade, Muzzire was absorbed into the wall.

I gasped. Aizor strode closer and carefully touched the surface.

“Watch out,” I cried, tugging him backward. “You could be pulled inside too.”

“I’ve never seen anything like this before.” He stooped down to examine that section of the wall. “It’s as smooth as if he was never here, but we both saw him. Heard his traitorous words.”

“He attacked me. All to avoid you and other traedors from mating with us.”

“The gods have spoken.”

I wasn’t sure about that, but the one thing I did know was that we needed to get inside and speak to the crystal aliens before they sent me back to Earth.

Aizor straightened and took my hand. We hurried inside the building and across the huge room to the one with flowers that would take me to the gods.

Inside, I jogged over and stood in the same spot I’d taken what seemed like ages ago. I’d grown since then.

And I’d fallen in love.

Would the crystal aliens believe me?

A blossom enveloped me and sucked me down. When I bottomed out, I waited, my heavy breathing the only sound echoing around me.

You’ve returned.

“Don’t you dare send me back,” I barked.

A low hum rang out, reminding me of Helena’s laughter. Were these gods related to her or were they all different species?

You wish to remain with Aizor?

“Yes. I love him. I want to be with him always.”

So, it shall be.

I was projected upward and when I spurted onto the floor, Aizor scooped me up and held me close.

“You’re not returning to your planet,” he said.

“I told you I love you, that I want to stay.”

“Mate, you make me very happy.” He gave me the sweetest kiss, but fire soon burned through it. When he lifted his head, he grinned. “The wall or the floor this time, my love?”

My smile joined with his. “I want to go home—toourhome. And then we can do both.”
