Hayes shrugged. “You never know with Rook. He’s hot and cold. Doesn’t matter. Hey: look at me.” He grabbed both sides of TK’s face. “You didn’t do anything wrong, OK? It was consensual. It’s all good. You understand?”

TK nodded.

“Seriously, go shower. Once it hardens, it’s a bitch to get out of hair, man.”

Hayes sighed as he watched his teammate walk away, then headed to the living room and pulled his pants and boxers back on. After grabbing some wet paper towels from the kitchen, he returned to mop up the mess on the living room floor. As he finished wiping and stood up, a wave of anxiety had other plans, and he immediately fell back down to his knees.

“You can…do this. This isn’t…there’s nothing to be…you are stronger…fuck.”

It wasn’t working.

You need a hit.

A shot.

Just one line.

Something to take the edge off.

Get Teek and go find some fuckin’ drugs.

“No, fuck that,” he said aloud, standing up and steadying himself against the wall and attempting to push the cravings from his mind. “You beat this shit. You already won. Fuck that.”

He doesn’t love you.

He just wanted to fuck TK.

That’s the only reason you’re here, so he can play you both.

He doesn’t forgive you.

See how he keeps bringing it up?

He’s never gonna let it go, you fuck up.

“Stop it!” he screamed, instantly regretting it, as he heard Ryan’s door open. When he entered the kitchen, Hayes was slumped against the countertop.

“Tyler?” he asked cautiously, placing a hand on his back, which was trembling with the force of his sobs. “Who are…”

Hayes stood up, shaking Ryan’s hand off his back. “You don’t…you’re never gonna let this go, are you?”

“Tyler,” Ryan said as he approached him, Hayes backing away, which caused Ryan to freeze. “What are you talking about?”

“You said…you forgive me. You said, ‘forget the past.’ But you keep…bringing it up. You either forgive me…or you don’t. I made a mistake, Ryan. I fucked up, OK? I own it. But you can’t rub my nose in it like a fuckin’ dog every other day!”

“Come here,” Ryan said softly, remaining in place and extending his arms, allowing his boyfriend to come to him.

Which he did.

Ryan wrapped his arms around his back, letting him cry against his shoulder. “I don’t know…how to navigate any of this,” he whispered. “I need to do better for you. I’m sorry I brought it up. I’m…Hayes, I’m sorry.”

“Rook,” he said, wiping his eyes and lifting his head to look at him. “Do you forgive me or not?”

“I forgive you.”

“Then please don’t bring it up again. It…hurts.”

“OK. I won’t.” Ryan grabbed his face and kissed the tip of his nose. “Come to bed?”
