“I have a key!”

“For emergencies,” Brand replied.

“You weren’t answering your phone.”

“I just got back. I was fucking asleep. And you do not enter my house and speak that way to Jolie.”

“You’re fucking her!” Mikey accused.

“She is mine. I’m not fucking her. She’s mine and I’m hers. Forever.”

Yikes.

Mikey’s eyes widened. “You know what happened with Rocco?—”

“That’s different. Jolie and I are not breaking up.”

“You say that, but when it happens, I’ll be left scrambling for someone to fill her spot.”

“It’s not going to happen. And you might want to think carefully about your next words and actions. I won’t allow anyone to speak badly about Jolie. Or scare her. We’re going back on tour. We’re together. And no one is coming between us.”

Mikey swallowed heavily. “Right. Well. I can see I was wrong. I apologize.”

“Don’t apologize to me,” Brand said harshly.

“Brand,” she protested quietly.

He reached around and tugged her to his side, his arm around her.

“I’m sorry, Jolie,” Mikey said. He did look genuinely remorseful. Mikey was the type of guy who took his job seriously. Sometimes that led him to speak and act before thinking, though.

“Now, leave your key to our place on the table and get the fuck out.”

Mikey nodded and quickly left.

“I’m rethinking working with Mikey,” Brand said darkly.

She didn’t think Mikey was a terrible guy, but she agreed.

Brand turned her to face him.

Uh-oh. She didn’t like that look on his face.

“Daddy?”

“What was the rule about getting up without me?” he growled, glaring down at her.

Uh-oh. She stepped back.

“Um, I needed to pee.”

“You should have woken me,” he said, stepping forward.

“I was coming straight back.” She moved another step back, hitting the wall behind her.

He moved forward. “Then how did you end up down here?”

“I also needed a drink and to take my medication. And then I heard the door opening.”
