“The rest of us will travel when we have to, but we’ll come live at home when we’re able,” I say.

“I’ll fly between the west coast and here until I get work in the city,” Carter says.

Her eyes go even wider. “No, no way. I can’t ask that of you.”

“We’re already doing it,” Carter says. “It’s already done. I put some feelers out for positions at a few different schools around here, and it’s only a matter of time now.”

“It’s happening,” Aiden says. “This is real. We can share you, all in our own little house, our own mansion in the city. We can share you and you can live with us for as long as you want.”

She stares at us one by one. I don’t know what she’s thinking. I know it’s an insane idea, totally crazy, but as soon as Aiden told me, I knew I was in. I have nothing to lose. I don’t care where I live. I travel all the time for tennis, but when I’m not traveling, I want to be in the city, living with Emily and my friends.

Because I can see the future of us. I can see a family, as nontraditional as possible, but a family nonetheless. Maybe we’ll have kids, or maybe we won’t. We’ll figure all that out. But we’ll be together with Emily, her little harem of guys, and I want to be a part of that more than anything else.

“I can’t,” she says softly.

“You can,” I say. “It’s happening.”

She blinks, and I realize she’s trying not to cry. I walk up to her and pull her into a hug. “It’s okay,” I whisper in her ear.

She breaks down then. The rest of the guys crowd around, hugging her, touching her, kissing her, comforting her. She lets us pass her around, trying to calm her down. Slowly, the crying stops, and she smiles, the first heartbreaking smile I’ve ever seen from her.

“Are you really sure?” she asks the group.

“We’re sure,” Daniel says. He’s actually starting to look better, I have to admit. “We’re very sure.”

“Okay,” she says finally. “I’ll do it.”

“Great,” Aiden says, grinning huge. “How about we go check out our new home?”

She nods, and laughs. “This is insane.”

“Yes, yes it is,” Carter answers, hugging her. “But it’s going to be good.”

We slowly leave the room behind, and I feel good for the first time since we left that motel. I’m finally hopeful that something good is going to happen, something worthwhile. We all follow Aiden out into the city, out toward our new home and our future.
