“I don’t blame you. The guys all went to play golf.”

“Why didn’t you?”

“I hate golf.”

I laugh a little. “You own a business. How do you not play golf?”

“Just never got into it. My dad was always playing, every single weekend, and I guess I just hated it.”

“I can see that. My dad was the same way.”

He looks at me. “What was it like, growing up with Henry?”

“Honestly, we barely grew up together. He was nineteen and off at college when I was ten.”

“Must be hard,” he says. “No wonder you’re not that close.”

“Every family is a little weird.”

“That’s true,” he says, laughing. “I don’t think I’ve ever met a really ‘normal’ family before.”

“That’s just how people are, I guess.”

He cocks his head at me. “What do you mean?”

“I mean, everyone thinks they’re normal, right? But nobody actually acts like anyone else. We’re all pretty weird to each other.”

“That’s true,” he says.

I shrug a little, suddenly getting hot. The way he’s looking at me, so intensely and seriously, is getting me worked up. I dig my feet into the sand and wrap my arms around my knees, sitting up.

“Want to go swim?” he asks suddenly.

“Okay,” I say.

He stands up and helps me to my feet. I toss my sunglasses down on my towel and try not to stare at him as he peels his shirt off.

We get to the edge of the water and the waves slowly roll up to my toes. “It’s cold!” I yell.

He laughs, walking in up to his knees. “It’s fine,” he says. “Come on. Just get in. That’s the only way to do it.”

I bite my lip and walk a little further in. The water rolls over my feet again. “No way. It’s too cold.”

“Don’t make me carry you in here.”

“Aiden!” I say as he comes after me. “No way!”

“You have to just dive in. Come on, I’ll help you.”

“Aiden!” I say, laughing, as he comes up and tries to grab me. I push him away but he grabs me again, grinning. I laugh as he lifts me into the air effortlessly.

“I’ll get you nice and wet,” he says to me. “Don’t you worry.”

“Ohmygod,” I say. “If you throw me in that water, I swear.”

“You’ll do what?” he asks. “You’re thrown over my shoulder.”

“Aiden!” I laugh and smack his back.
