Which meant power play for us.

I loved being a man up. We lined up for the new faceoff. I scooted back a little bit from my normal positioning so I had a better angle on the goal. If all worked out, I could just fire it on the goal.

Carmie won the faceoff. I'd never seen him be so strong on faceoffs as he had been tonight, but I wasn't complaining that he was winning them all. The win percentage would go down eventually, but until then, I was going to take advantage of each and every faceoff win.

I fired the puck onto the goal, aiming for the bar Mexico. It was always a little risky since instead of the puck bouncing down, it could easily deflect into the crowd if you didn't hit the crossbar just right. Thankfully, I hit that perfect spot where the puck hit the bottom side of the bar, and it snuck behind the goalie's back, making for an easy goal.

After making the score four-one, Seattle's fight just left them.

Once the goalie got pulled, Carter stopped getting assists and finally scored himself. It seemed like he helped to set up everyone tonight since, besides setting me up twice, he set up Scuba.

By the time the clock ran out, we were just buzzing.

Winning on opening day was always the best way to start the season. Scuba and Rainer were proving they belonged with the Legacy and just really shut down our opponent's offensive rush.

As our post-game playlist died out, Carmie whistled. "All right, fellas. It's time to move over to Jokers."

"Not the Roxy?" asked Scuba.

The Roxy is where a lot of hockey players hung out, but to truly celebrate a win, we preferred to go to Jokers. It was a private club that had a similar vibe as Roxy, but it was our place.

"Nah," I said, "That's for the visitors. Why do you think you never see us there?"

Scuba shrugged, "I've seen enough guys there."

Sometimes, you had to make them see the light. But despite what Scuba wanted, we were not going to the Roxy. It was going to be Jokers. I loved Jokers so much.

"You can go to the Roxy, but the rest of us are going to Jokers."

Then, after a few beers, I might check in on Natalie and see how her date went. Hopefully, it was another dud, and I didn't have to think about her having sex with anyone else.

Chapter 9

Natalie

This date was a fucking nightmare. While I wasn't expecting the most exciting date in the world, this was bad. Why did I ever agree to this?

Oh right, my best friend Rory said that I needed to get back on the horse again, even if it was a bad date. So the two of us spent the night on Hinge looking for anyone who might not be a complete waste of time since her guy wasn’t willing to commit to anything. We found Mark.

I should have known this was a terrible idea when he suggested that we meet at Jokers for dinner during opening night. I'd been dragged to Jokers more times than I could count and knew that their food selections were nonexistent. This was just a way to get me drunk and see hockey players, as if I didn’t get tortured by looking but not being able to touch any of them.

Only good thing about Jokers, it was the Legacy's favorite place to celebrate a win.

Don't forget, you can always text Siobhan or Rory in case of an emergency. I just have to time the trip to the WC, so it doesn't seem so obvious that I’m bailing on the date.

Looking at my watch, I would have to suck it up for about twenty minutes, and then I could have my brother or one of his mates send this guy packing.

So I took a sip of my Cosmo and bided my time. I should try to create some conversation, but I couldn't be bothered. I was too bored.

Thankfully, I didn't even need to wait twenty minutes before I heard Scuba's voice, "Oh shit, Baby Carmie is on a date."

Of course it was so loud that all eyes in the bar turned towards him. It wasn't just Scuba coming into the place. Both Spencer and my brother flanked their loud teammate. While Carter didn't seem too pissed off, the exact opposite was true of Spencer.

Spencer came over to me and Mark and slapped his hands on the table. "Don't tell me this is the guy that you blew off our game for?"

Mark gulped, and I was pretty sure that he might have pissed himself when he connected the dots of who was at our table. "You know Spencer Suzuki?"

"More than know." Spencer stood up tall and folded his arms so his muscles were on full display. He looked me straight in the eye, "Why don't you look happy?"
