"Four more weeks. I looked at the schedule; I think it's just one day that I need your help." He looked at me and gave me a subtle kiss.

Chapter 26

Spencer

Coming home, I noticed there was a shit ton of flattened boxes in my garage. I looked towards Carter. "Don't tell me. Your place is finally almost done."

He chuckled as he slammed the door. "Yeah, after months of failures and bad contractors, it's almost ready."

It seemed crazy. I didn't even realize that the project was moving forward this fast. Both of the Carmichaels hadn't really talked about the project at all.

Cartsy and I always talked about hockey now that the season was in full swing. This was our year. The vibe in the locker room had been unreal. The addition of Scuba brought so much levity to the group. Plus, it helped that he had been the missing piece for our power play thus far.

As much as Cartsy and I didn't want to admit it, we only had a few more years left in us. So hopefully, this would be our year to get that elusive Cup.

It was so nice not to be so worried about how I was coming across on social media, and I could be myself again. Natalie finally felt more comfortable about the way people were reacting to my content. I'd still always be a bit of a troll, but I wasn’t the scum of the earth.

Having social media under control and just hockey, in general, allowed us to explore our pent-up feelings each night. It took so much power not to serenade the girl in horrifically bad poetry. I seriously loved her. So whenever I had a moment when Cartsy wasn't around, I would just kiss the living shit out of her plump, perfect lips.

So maybe it wasn't too surprising that I didn't realize my best friend could be moving out soon if I was always focused on making love with Natalie or doing my day job.

"What does that mean? Are you moving out this week, next week, tomorrow?"

Carter shrugged. "I'm not a hundred percent sure. Most likely next week or so. But I did ask Natalie to pick up some boxes so I don't have to pack everything in garbage bags. I can take my wardrobe back each time I head over there to check on the progress."

I'd done far too many trash bag moves, and Carter would never fully appreciate the best ways to pack your life up into a car the way that I did.

"Hey, don't knock a garbage bag move. While it wasn't the prettiest of moves, it made it a hell of a lot easier to fit more crap into your car with the black bags. "

Carter just chuckled as he grabbed one of the flat boxes and carried it into the house.

As I got into the fridge, I pulled out some of the ingredients for a poke bowl. Despite eating at the rink, I was still starving. Turning towards Carter, I asked, "Want any?"

"Nah. I'm good, man."

Then, my beautiful girl walked into the kitchen from my office. She had the cutest purple sweater that was opened just enough to reveal some sort of base layer that begged me to strip her of her sweater so I could really play with her body. She tucked a strand of her blonde hair back.

"Don't tell me you're already eating? Didn't you just leave the rink?"

I scooped some rice into a bowl. "I'm a growing boy, didn't you know?"

"More like a bottomless pit. But seriously, I'm going to have to order more food for you at this rate, and I have so much work to do at Carter's place."

I hated that. She was stressing out, and it was something so minor. I put my hands on her shoulders. "If I'm running out, I can go food shopping. It's fine. It's not like we're going on the road today. If you need to do things at Carter's place, do that." I dropped my voice so only she could hear me and whispered, "I'm dying for you to spend the night here."

She leaned up, and it was going to be perfect for a kiss when we heard, "Not now. I can't handle any more PDA."

We jumped apart like we were teenagers who just got caught making out. I looked toward my best friend and said, "Really, dude? I can't kiss my girlfriend in my house?"

He shook his head. "Not when it's my little sister. I would rather have you ring my bell."

I chuckled. “Hey, I offered to do that to make things better, but you said no.”

“I also said I never wanted to hear about your sex life.”

Natalie put her hands on her hips, “Oh grow up, Carter. We both know kissing isn’t sex, and we’ve been respecting your boundaries. ‘Cause we all know whose bed he sleeps in so you don’t have to hear a thing.”

Carter made gagging noises at the thought I might kiss his sister. When he did shit like that, I wanted to ask how I was the immature one.
