She wasn’t sure what she’d do then. Under normal circumstances, that would hurt like the dickens.

Right now . . . it would likely decimate her.

Faith turned her head and slid her thumb into her mouth. Logically, she knew she shouldn’t.

But logic had long since gone out the window.

Another bang of thunder. Another whimper.

“Not safe, not safe,” she whispered around her thumb.

“You’re safe,” he told her. “From now on, you’re always going to be safe.”

Faith really wished she could believe that.

She shook her head with another whimper.

“Shh, you’re all right, Little Blossom. You’re all right. Do you want some skin?”

Skin?

What the heck was he talking about?

And why did he have to talk to her in that voice?

Steel velvet.

That voice hinted at a softness she hadn’t been sure he had. At an ability to feel empathy. It teased her with the promise that he would be able to soothe her fears.

Faith knew none of that was true.

It couldn’t be. Because then he really would be irresistible.

Reuben lifted her off him and onto the sofa. A whimper escaped her. She didn’t want to be away from him.

“I’m not leaving you, Little Blossom.”

Urgh. That term of endearment kept pushing her closer to letting her Little free.

No. Nope.

Not happening.

There was only one man that she had ever been able to let her Little side out with.

And he was the opposite of Reuben. Matt was a giant teddy bear.

Sweet and kind.

He’d always supported her. He would never have told her what to do. Or have demanded that she submit to him.

Matt would be horrified by Reuben’s actions.

Safe. Sane. Consensual.

Except . . . she had agreed to this.

And there was no denying her attraction to him.
