Anxiety threatened to take hold and she pushed it aside. She didn’t want to think about Eric and what had happened.

“Okay. But you won’t intimidate him, will you? I don’t want to scare him off.”

“If I’m happy with the background check and what I learn, I won’t chase him off. As long as this is just about friendship?”

“Daddy, I can be friends with a man without being interested in him. Because the only man I am interested in is you.”

“And that’s how it better stay.”

Faith leaned back in her chair behind her desk at work.

It was after lunch, and she was feeling kind of . . . crabby. And she knew part of the reason for it.

She still felt guilty.

She’d come in expecting to find lots of work waiting for her, only to find out that Reuben had done her tasks as well as his own.

Which made her feel even worse.

Well, there was only one way to get rid of this feeling. With a sigh, she got to her feet. They didn’t have any more clients coming in that she knew of.

This was the perfect time.

Getting up, she knocked on his door and walked in when he called out.

“Hey, baby,” he said. “Everything okay? Did you have your afternoon snack?”

Oh. Fudge.

“Go and get it and bring your water bottle back too. Shut the door behind you when you return.”

Shoot.

When she’d gotten up this morning, Reuben had packed her some snacks for the day. How he had time to do that, she had no idea.

Grabbing her water bottle and snack, she started to drink the water hastily. So when she walked back in, she was feeling extra full, but at least most of her water was gone.

Reuben eyed her as she walked over to him. She went to sit in the chair across the desk from him, but he crooked a finger at her, and she walked around the desk. He turned and cupped her hips.

“Did you just drink a whole lot of water before you came in here?” he asked.

“I was thirsty.” It wasn’t a lie. She had been surprisingly thirsty once she’d started to drink.

“You forgot to drink your water and tried to drink it all at once, didn’t you? You also forgot to eat your snack. Do I have to bring you in here to eat your snacks, baby?”

“No, Sir.”

“No? I’m not so sure. I think I will do that. Take your panties off.”

Her eyes widened. “W-why?”

“Who is in charge in this office?”

“You are.” That didn’t even need to be said.

“Then do as you were told.”
