“Luke was a medic. He kept copies of all the meds they used in the weeks running up to the Architect mission. As well as details of where they were being shipped from.”

“They’re all on there?” Griff’s voice was hushed. Reverent.

“All of it. This is a copy.” She slid the stick across the table to Leo. He picked it up with careful fingers before spinning in his seat and connecting it to the nearest computer.

Leo spoke over his shoulder. “Did you take this to the police?”

“Yes.” Jo remembered the caustic stare of the detectives she’d met with, who had discredited her and dismissed her evidence.

“They didn’t take me seriously. I lost my job because of this. They accused me of being a crackpot, of not letting the dead rest because, as far as everyone else is concerned, it’s over. Raptor paid the price. But they haven’t, not by a long shot. So, if the police won’t go after Pharmasyn, I’ll do it by myself. Thank you very much.”

“Pharmasyn?” Griff looked puzzled.

“Raptor’s a medusa. It’s still alive and Pharmasyn is one of many heads.” Her stomach tightened as his eyes locked with hers with the intensity of a heat-seeking missile.

Griff blew out a noisy breath and rocked back in his seat, making the wood protest. “Fuck.”

Her palms dampened as she pressed them to her thighs. She continued, ignoring the race of her heart. “That’s why I need your help. I won’t let them get away with this. They have to be stopped and I’m going to stop them.”

Griff rubbed his chin, remembering the urgent journey to England with Abe to provide backup to Fox when Raptor’s agents closed in, eager to silence Abbie before she could testify against them.

His heartbeat glitched at memories of clashing with Raptor, of the bullet demolishing his shoulder. Fuck.

He had his own score he wanted to settle with Raptor.

Zak was intent, scrolling through the information Jo had provided, Leo leaning over him, one hand on the back of his chair. He whistled under his breath. “Raptor. The gift that just keeps on giving.”

Griff got up and crossed the room. “So where are they—”

“Skarsvag submarine base—” Zak tapped the screen. “It’s a couple of hours flight from here.”

“The Norwegian government sold it to the Russians several years ago and then, more recently, the Russians offloaded it to a private investor. Pharmasyn.” Jo paused. “The base is derelict. Or was until recently.” She reached inside her backpack and spread a loose spool of paper on the table. Her eyes gleamed. “This is drone footage for the last year. You can see here.” She indicated the cool blue areas of the map. “Nothing going on. It’s been like this for years. But recently, it’s changed.” She lifted the final map so everyone could see the red blotches of intense activity the drone had recorded.

Griff pressed his fingertips on the paper, tracking the blooms of activity. A steady increase over the past year. “Where did you get this information?”

“I can’t say.” She met the question in his eyes, unflinching. Damn, he couldn’t help admire her spirit. “I believe whatever is going on in Skarsvag is linked to the brain chips. Raptor hasn’t given up.” She cleared her throat. “I need your experience with Raptor. That’s why I came to you. Will you help me?”

“Leo. This is… complicated—” Zak lifted his head from the scroll of information, his eyebrows meeting over his eyes.

“Leo. Zak.” Alina spoke for the first time. Her chair scraped against the floor as she stood, but the determination in her voice was velvet soft. “Griff, I need to speak to Zak and Leo. Perhaps you could show Jo where the restroom is so she can get cleaned up.” Alina turned to face Leo and Zak, folding her arms across her chest.

Their odds didn’t look good.

An imperceptible nod from Leo.

“Sure.” Griff turned his attention to Jo.

She collected her paperwork from the table, avoiding eye contact.

“This way.” He motioned for her to follow him.

Griff climbed the stairs, far too aware of her presence on his heels.

He paused when he reached the broad landing. Sunlight bathed the space from the enormous skylight above. White clouds scudded across the expanse of blue. What he would give to be out there right now, his fingertips lodged against hard granite, his lungs full of clean mountain air.

Griff exhaled. He turned to face Jo with no e.
