“Is Lexi here yet?” Zach, completely oblivious to our awkward exchange, tries to look around Sasha to get a glimpse of the plane. I do the same, breath hitching in the back of my throat when I see that it is an actual quite large plane. I have no idea what I was expecting. Maybe one of those dinky little ones, and I was low key worried about our return flight.

“Yes, she got here few minutes ago. We were waiting for you,” she hits him again with the breathy voice and adds a wink to it.

“Well, here we are.” I about drop dead when Zach grins and winks back at her. “Lead the way,” he points behind her with his chin.

“Can I help you with one of the bags?” she gets closer to him now, and I swear I am going to blow a gasket.

“I got it,” I burst and yank my large duffle bag off Zach’s shoulder. I do it so fast, Zach doesn’t realize what just happened. “Now we can go,” I smile back at Sasha while arranging my bag on my shoulder.

With a surprised look, Sasha finally turns around and starts walking down the hallway that leads us to the entrance of the plane.

“Here we are,” her chirpy voice announces when we’re there, stepping to the side so we could walk onto the plane.

“Mr. Cavanaugh, Miss,” the pilot greets us as soon as he sees us. I just nod in awe. I don’t know what’s happening right now.

“Patrick,” Zach responds for the both of us, then pushes softly for me to move, propelling me forward. And that’s how I come face to face with a very beautiful woman who also looks very familiar.

“Hi, Hunter,” she gets up from her seat when she sees us approaching. “Remember me?”

Oh my gosh, Lexi Connors Cavalli, my brother’s crazy ex-girlfriend, who also happens to be his best friend’s wife now, is giving me a tentative smile.

This is going to be one hell of a flight home.

CHAPTER 25

Long enough

Zach

“Alexi,” my voice booms around the cabin.

“Zach, if Marco hears you calling me that, he’ll have words with you,” she gives me a nervous laugh, her eyes going to Hunter who is watching us with curiosity.

“Yeah, well, he still owes me one from when I saved you from that douchebag,” I shrug and pull her in a hug.

“I thought he just paid that debt by flying you home at the last minute like this,” she deadpans, and I have to give credit where credit is due. Lexi Cavalli is no dummy.

“This doesn’t count, Lexi,” I continue teasing her. “You were going to fly home with or without us, so not like I put him out or anything. He repays the favor when I put him out,” I wink at her.

Lexi, who I know through her husband, Marco Cavalli, a business associate, watches me carefully for a few moments, her shrewd eyes moving between me and Hunter.

“So you know Hunter, huh?” I nudge Hunter to move and sit down, which she seems happy to do, a sigh of relief escaping her lips when her ass hits the seat.

“Uh, yeah, we know each other.” Lexi watches Hunter carefully, almost like she is afraid of a possible blowout between them.

“We do,” Hunter’s reply is short and to the point. There’s obviously no love lost between the two.

“How?” I ask because my curiosity has been piqued.

“Lexi used to date my brother. Before he met Brooke, I mean,” Hunter explains in an awkward tone. Doesn’t sound like it was a good situation.

“No shit,” I laugh. “I’m friends with Brooke,” I grin at Lexi. “Small world, right?”

“Very,” Lexi agrees and gives Hunter a worried look.

“Well, this is good then,” I joke, knowing that it is anything but good from their weird reactions. “Is there anything else I should know?” I ask when I notice that Hunter is not even attempting to look at Lexi.

Lexi takes a deep breath, then leans over the aisle to touch Hunter’s arm.
