He smirks. “You sure?”

“Yes.”

Marks walks him and Elle out, which brings my head out of cloud thirteen and back to the reality that William is still out there.

Anxiety begins to build, and I head over to the window to watch Roman and Elle walk into his house. Until I see them, I feel a bit sick to my stomach.

Marks walks in and locks the door behind him. “Guessing that’s going well.”

“Until he finds out my truth.”

“If someone judges you by what you’ve survived and doesn’t celebrate that, they don’t deserve you.”

I shake my head and turn from the window. “He’s just starting out in his career; he doesn’t need all this.”

“That’s not really your choice, CeCe. It’s his.”

“I disagree.”

He chuckles, and I scowl at him as he says, “It’s gonna be Danny and Chloe all over again.”

Heading downstairs at seven fifteen, I hear Marks say, “Not sure, but I’m sure CeCe will let us know.”

“I’m here. I’m awake,” I call as I hit the bottom of the stairs then hurry through the front room, the living room, and into the kitchen.

Elle wags her tail when she sees me, and it doesn’t matter that I’m running late, that today with Cora is going to be rough, and then when I have the talk with her tonight, as Gwen suggested while we text messaged. It’s all okay in this moment.

“Morning, Cecilia.” Roman smiles as he looks me over.

“Morning,” I say as I rub behind Elle’s ear.

“Where would you like little miss’s crate?”

“At your place. It’s in the dining room, right?”

“Yeah, but it can go wherever.”

I stand. “Consistency.”

He scrubs a hand over his face. “She’s doing great with the potty training, but she doesn’t love sleeping in the crate.”

“So, what you’re saying is, you let her sleep where?”

He shakes his head.

“With you.”

“In my defense, it’s Hudson’s fault.”

“She and I will figure it out.”

When he leans over and kisses my cheek, I’m a bit shocked.

“Thanks, CeCe.” He looks at his phone. “I gotta be at the airport soon.”

“Go. We’ll be fine.”
