I turn and look at her.

“What? How many men named Cyrus do you know?”

CeCe giggles, and I look back at her.

“She’s not wrong.”

“I like her. Don’t screw this up by being too much, yeah?” my damn sister says as she walks back to the door. She looks back at CeCe and asks, “Game tomorrow?”

“Not sure,” she answers.

“Might need someone to have my back again.” Jillian laughs.

“I got your back.” CeCe smirks. “Tell everyone good night for me? I have to be up early.”

“Will do. Night, CeCe.”

“Night,” she says then turns to me. “Good night.”

“It’s going to be like that, huh?” I ask, knowing damn well it is. I also know I could change that, but she needs a win tonight, even more than I do.

“You just …” She waves her hand toward the door. “I mean, what if I decide I don’t like you and that one date is the only one?”

“Depends.”

She rocks back on her heels “On what?”

“If that one date is the best one of my life and you decide you don’t like me, I’ll find a way to change your mind.”

“Is that so?”

“Sure is.” I nod. “Sleep well, Cecilia Shaw.”

She doesn’t move, so I do. I kiss the top of her head.

“I’m gonna leave before I end up tossing you over my shoulder, walking up the stairs, dropping you on your bed, and showing you how much you actually do like me.”

“How do you know where my room is?” she asks, biting back a smile.

“I’ve paid attention for weeks now. I’m guessing you have, too.”

She doesn’t deny it one bit.

I head to her fridge, open the freezer, and grab a bag of frozen peas. Walking back, I hand them to her.

“Thanks.” She takes them, turns, and walks away.

“Sweet dreams, Cecilia Shaw.”

“You, too”—she looks over her shoulder—“Roman Anthony Hart.”

Yep, she’s paying attention.

I pick up the bowl and set it in the sink. Then I grab Elle’s leash, and we head outside.

“Did you get the information you needed?” Chloe asks.

“I did. Still doesn’t seem like enough, but I get her not wanting her name in the papers, owning a local business. It’s wrong, though. She didn’t do a damn thing but defend her people and herself.”
