“You a mama’s boy, Roman Hart?” Chloe asks in the sweetest way.

He answers in just as sugary a way. “I got one of the best ever created, so, yeah, I guess so.” He turns and looks at me. “You close with yours?”

“I don’t really remember her. She passed away when I was four. Chloe was my mother figure.” I look at Chloe. “My everything, really. So, I’m a Chloe’s girl.”

“I’m sorry about that, truly.”

“Don’t let this get awkward, neighbor,” I joke, lightening the mood.

His eyes sparkle. “I’m just happy to get to know you, Tuesday.”

“Oh my God.” I throw my napkin at him. “Shush.”

He shakes his head as he looks me over. “Vet Tech.”

“Gym Bro,” I toss back.

“Red.” His eyes flare so hot.

“Hot Neighbor.” I roll my eyes dramatically.

“Just who the heck are we, really? I’ve got an idea.” He makes the hand gesture for mind blown. “Let’s chill once in a while and find out.”

I arch a brow. “You be quiet.”

“Holy shit, does anyone else feel like they shouldn’t be here right now?” York pushes back in her chair and stands.

Our heads both whip around to see her, Danny, and Chloe all staring at us.

Chuckling, Roman stands up. “That’s my cue.”

“You don’t have to leave.” Chloe pouts. “We like you and your pup.”

“It’s time for little miss to eat. I’m sure I’ll see you around.”

“You need to borrow that ratchet strap?” Danny asks him.

What?

“Not sure yet. I’ll let you know.” He leans down and gently scoops Elle up, careful not to wake Aggie. He slows down when he’s next to me. “Happy Tuesday.”

“Yeah.” I nod. “Wasn’t all bad.”

Once we’ve cleaned up and Aggie is still sound asleep, Chloe, Danny, York, and I sit on the couch.

Chloe smiles. “You like him.”

I shrug. “He’s likable.”

“We like him,” Danny says. “York, too.”

“You all realize that arranged marriages haven’t been the norm since the 1700s, right? Never did catch on here in the US.”

“What your brother-in-law is saying is that Rome has a clean record. I looked him up.” York shrugs. “I like him because he has a good ass and eyes. Chloe likes him because when you drop the resting bitch face mask, you’re all smiles, and you have goo-goo eyes.”

“I do not,” I defend myself.
