He smiles.

“Which means if I genuinely like someone, you can be sure I’ve tried not to, so they have to be the best kind of person. Cora fits the bill.”

“You two had better come over and join in on this.” Chloe laughs and cries at the same time.

“Be right there,” Danny calls back to her.

“You good?”

“I am. You?”

“Yeah.”

“So, you and Roman made it official last night?”

“What?” I gasp.

“Marks.” He shrugs and smiles. “Happy for you, CeCe. He’s good people.”

“Missed the game. How did they do tonight?”

“Lost by two.”

Roman

Walking into the locker room, I’m angry that we lost, but not at the team. I’m angry at the piece of shit who most likely dicked with the electrical system at my place. Right now, investigators are saying faulty wiring, but with the inspection right before the closing three months ago, it makes no sense. There was a thorough inspection, so I’m not buying it. I gave the fire chief the home inspector’s information, and he was going to contact him. Marks and York are digging to see if William had any electrical training, but their focus is on getting him back behind bars before CeCe and the girls return.

“All right, listen up!” Coach yells as he enters the room. “I’m handling press tonight. None of you earned airtime after that mess. We’re too early in the season to be slacking on the field. There’s no excuse for what happened with the infield today. We’ve practiced those plays a hundred times!

“Blaze, a big part of that is on you. You were all over the place. Had no choice but to pull you out. We know you’re better than that. But we’re a team, and as a team today, we all fell short. We need to tighten up our defense and get our pitching back on track. We’re in this together. Tomorrow, we need to step up our game. Use this loss as motivation to improve and show the Brewers what we’re really made of tomorrow night.”

I see Jase walk over to Blaze and hope he goes easy on him. Pretty sure he’s working through some shit, and that shit has a lot to do with his dad. No one’s really trying that damn hard to get too close. He makes himself unapproachable.

The little voice in my head tells me to tag in. Not sure how that’s going to go. He hasn’t even spoken to me since I dragged him out of the bed this morning because he didn’t hear the alarm screaming over his head. He was wearing earplugs and didn’t come out of CeCe’s room until it was time to leave for the field.

I grab my phone and power it on. My IG lights up with a ton of notifications. First, I check to see if I received a text from Gwen York, who went to work—late due to the fire—dressed like CeCe. Her hair was tucked under a hat; a wig was dropped off at Wags before she left and went directly to the Jags game.

Unbeknownst to CeCe or me, Gwen hacked into her social media accounts several days ago to show a presence and bait William into learning her schedule in hopes of luring him to her.

Gwen commented as CeCe to one of the pictures in the girls’ posts in Miami.

@cee.2: Going to miss you at the game, but I have 13 reasons to go solo. #gojags

I find that amusing as hell because I cannot imagine CeCe posting anything like that, but I can imagine her reaction to it. She’s gonna give Gwen hell. I also love the thought of CeCe using my number, even if it is the fake CeCe.

The comments below hers are as amusing … until they aren’t.

@SmutBunz: She’s the one he calls Dr. Feelgood

@sissy.sis: Wonder if she knows he’s got mad Jags disease.

@GirlPWR: Who knew you had to have a PhD to snag a jock?
